My friend and I always like to take our sweet time at the range, so we share a tee box. This way we just hit a few at a time and are able to examine each other's swings if warranted. It's good to only hit a few at a time so fatigue and habits don't set in. Helps me to be more productive at the range.
So, anyway, we play this game called........(Hmmm, now I guess I wish it had a name). It's basically a little match based on driving accuracy and hitting greens.
First we'll determine if it's going to be a par 4 or par 3, although par 4's are most exciting.
Then we determine the extents of the fairway. Between that flag and that flag (picking flags that are fairway-like distance apart and about 220 out). Finally we pick green A and green B. Green A is usually something less than 150 and green B is a green normally more difficult at 180+. This really only works if your range has defined greens.
I will go first and hit 3 tee shots, trying to hit the fairway. Then, he will hit 3 tee shots. Keep track of how many of your 3 tee shots hit the fairway.
My turn again. If I had hit all 3 in the fairway, I get to take aim at the shorter green, green A with my next 3 shots. Had I only hit 1 in the fairway, of my next 3 shots, only 1 goes at green A, the other two at green B. Friend does the same.
The winner of that hole is the one who hits the green more times. For example, I hit the green I am aiming for on 2 of 3 shots, and friend hits it only once, I am 1UP.
So, obviously if you hit your ball in the 'fairway' you have the opportunity to shoot for the closer green, giving you an advantage. If opponent misses the fairway with all 3, he will have to shoot for the tougher green 3 times, making it more difficult to win the hole.
You can play a par 3 too. Pick a green, each shoot at it 3 times, whoever hits more, wins the hole.
Par 5s are a little more complicated, I'll let you and your buddies figure that out....
I'm sure some of you have done something similar. Maybe exactly the same. I just find it quite fun.
Any other interesting, productive range games? Besides 'Let's aim for the ball-collector-guy!'
The problem is, it annoys the living **** out of the person in the next bay.
My friend and I are constantly bickering about whether the drive stayed in the fairway or not. Or whether the ball, which rests 170 yards away, is actually on the green or on the fringe.
So you have to apply some 'close-enough' factors...
Maybe something like 'Fairways and Greens'.

Dude, don't you have any heated ranges near your house? If not, that is a good business venture for someone in your area.
We have heated ranges here, and you can comfortably practice when it gets down to 25 degrees. Anything below that, or if its very windy, and you are pushing it.
I've recently liked to play HORSE at the range. I call a shot, lets say a draw to a certain green, and if I pull it off the other person has to do so to avoid getting a letter. If I don't pull it off, then it's their turn. Just like basketball. But the only problem is when you're not on a range with greens you have to decide a yardage around the flag or sign or whatever.
