Iron covers

Would you ever, or do you currently, use iron covers? I used them when I got my new (used) clubs. But I lost a few of the covers and got lazy about it so I stopped. When I had them, people looked at me a little strangely.

Oh yeah, what do you think when you see someone joining you with iron covers?

I use them all the time. They keep the clubs from getting dinged up, which happens quick. I don't really care what people think as I'd rather have nice looking clubs rather than ones that look like a chipmunk has been chewing on them. Nothing wrong with keeping your clubs looking nice.

I have iron covers because my irons are forged, so they ding a lot easier. I know a lot of people think that clubs should get banged up. And I know some people think it slows down play. I don't care what they think because I like to keep them nice and I don't slow down play.

I bought some last year, just because I had some golf vouchers to spend and I only ended up having them on my irons for a few holes, they're such a pain taking them on and off all the time, they don't look that great either.... just what I think though, no offence to all the iron cover people out there.

This picture is from the set I bought new in 1987 and just semi-retired this year. This what covers do for forged irons. I use the neoprene covers now and it literally takes me all of about 7 seconds total to take them off and put them back on. They have never been a nuisance to me.

Probably not as much as they do during a round of golf.

I bought some for myself after our company golf outing.

I had walked around the 30 odd carts looking at everyones different equipment & some of the nicest clubs looked like they had been dragged behind a truck.Seeing someones putter looking like a half digested chew toy made up my mind. The icing was the jangly, rattleing sound all those clubs made as we took off to our respective tees.It actually made me flinch.

Now it's part of my routine.Pick a club,pocket the cover(IIRC,Castle Bay neoprene.$15 @ Golf Galaxy),make the shot,wipe the crud off,recover,& replace.Next.

I've used them most of the time I've been golfing, in large part b/c I can't stand that jangling sound when I walk. The only clubs I have trouble with getting covers on/off quickly are the wedges.

If I'm going to keep my driver & woods looking nice, why not the irons too?

I think I'm going to go get some neoprene ones at Academy, because they're only $10. I'll start using them again, and if I don't like it then I'll retire the covers to just when I move the clubs in the trunk of the car.

Oh yeah, and when I had iron covers I found something to be useful. I used iron covers on the irons except my wedges because I use them a lot. They don't bang around with the other irons because the others have covers but are easy to just pull out of the bag.

Call me anal but i have used them on every set of my irons. As mentioned before it has become part of my routine. After playing a few rounds with covers you would never realize your taking off and putting on covers. I'm sure i increased the value of my clubs on the resale market and when i look at used clubs it breaks my heart to see fine clubs beat into the ground by clubs banging together.

At Dick's Sporting Goods, the sell Face Savers Plus, I altered mine by getting some electrical wire instead of the rubber connectors they have and used some electrical tape to keep the club covers a reasonable distance from each club and it works like a champ....I know, geeky or whatever, but I like my equipment looking nice and if I can have something to do with it, I'll do it...it's just me.
