Under what circumstances would you just give up the game?
Besides a physical ailment that would force you out.
How bad would you have to become to pack it in, or would there be other reasons that would cause you to say I QUIT?
For me it would be if golf interfered with my family life and became more hassle than it is worth.
Nothing... I could never not play golf, I don't know what I'd do all day! Unless they destroy all the golf clubs and golf courses in the world I might have to.
For me the only thing I'd have to say is a physical ailment, loss of limb or perhaps wheel chair bound, I know they play, but I don't think I could do it.
Although I would have to say that while I was a young guy I saw a guy with no right arm hit the ball and he clocked it about 260 yards, opening hole was a reachable par-4 of about that distance and he was right there.....amazing to see that.
In my early 20s, I played less and less frequently, until I got to the point where I couldn't break 100. I quit the game at that point. I guess I'd quit if my game got to that point again.
Ironically, there are probably some low-hdcp golfers who would quit if their game deteriorated to where mine is now (16 hdcp). And I know there are plenty of people who enjoy the game while shooting 110. Whatever floats your boat!
I played infrequently during my 20s and nearly quit altogether for various reasons for 5 years in my early 40s. When I picked it up again, I found my game had seriously deteriorated and it took me 3 years to get it back. If it weren't for the comraderie of a couple of good friends, I would've packed it in for good. My wife would never try to take golf away knowing how much it means to me... so that pretty much eliminates family considerations. If I hit a point where my game had deteriorated so much that I wasn't enjoying myself, I might hang them up....decreasing distance notwithstanding.. I know that's coming.
