If you live in a warm weather region leave this post right now.
It is 60* and sunny in Buffalo today. I had to hit the course.
Winter golf is interesting to say the least.
It was warm and breezy and it felt great to stand on the first tee box again.
Place I went to is protecting their greens so they were supposed to be off limits but the woman told to me to go ahead and play them.
Swampy might best decribe the conditions
naturally there was no roll and I ended up pretty muddy, 4 lost balls (not bad) but I have a grin ear to ear.
Wasn't really score keeping, I played 3-4 balls off the tee, testing 2 drivers to see which one I am going to keep. I was surprised to see how far my irons were playing, I figured I would be an iron short but it was not the case.
I am sure regular weather will return but this was a great winter treat.
Awesome, it's been high 40's lately here in the Boston area and I am thinking about heading to Cape Cod this weekend to play. About 4 courses down there are open, tee to green.
Normally this time of year I don't even THINK about golf. But lately it's been very mild. It feels like early March when you really start thinking about getting ready for the season!
It's 45 degrees here today with spotty showers mixed with some sunshine. The showers were just bothersome enough to keep me off the course and in the dome hitting balls in preparation for tomorrow's round.
That's right all you warm weather rub it inners! I'm playing golf tomorrow, in Michigan, in the middle of January!..........
I got up this morning at 3:30 and went to work, so I was home by 1...since it was mid-50s and a little overcast, I checked the course out on a hunch just to *see* if they were open and to my surprise, they were! I was like a kid at Christmas. Although I got poured on twice, the first 5 holes were played in relative dryness and surprisingly, the greens were pretty firm and I even got a little roll on the drives. Once the storms came through (thunderstorms in January in PA? ) the ground was wet but it was still great to get out there. I ended up shooting a 3-over 38 with a birdie on the 9th hole...punched a 9 iron from a bad lie to 12 feet and buried it.
That's great! The "I get to play year round" ers have no clue as to the feeling we cold winter climate guys get when we get an opportunity like this!
Nope...I actually made a detour on the way home from work and had to go home to get my clubs...I think I almost rolled my car doing a "Dukes of Hazzard"-type 180 in the middle of the road to turn around.

I've never done anything like that .........No matter what Wazmankg says!
I have a hunch Waz won't be hiring either one of you to chauffer him anywhere.
Sounds like the weather all across the northeast is open for golf.
Good luck tomorrow League. I can tell you it felt great to be out there.
On a humorous note, middle of January and I still had to wait on the tee for the guy in front of me.
No big courses are open yet, but the local country clubs short course is open all year (weather permitting), its still in pretty good condition surprisingly, supposed to be 51 tomorrow so ill definently be playing.
Temperature should be about 50 on Saturday. I do play all year round but it is very much winter golf conditions. Overall I am about 3/4 club shorter in the winter (if there is no wind). Putting can be an adventure but generally the greens break a bit less and you can be firmer.
Main thing is to be equipped for it - a "bobble hat" (touque), wind/rain proofs - I've got a set with zip off sleeves so if it warms up or cools down I'm ready.

Not unless the cart is equipped with belts, airbags & a rollbar. Got 27 in yesterday BTW. It took me a bit over 4 hours. It may be the last time for a while, but I never thought I'd be playing in Michigan in mid-January.
