my good deed for the year....

....I feel good by doing something right this year already. On Jan. 01 , 2006 , I found someone's PW on the 18th hole green , keep it until Jan. 08, 2006 , and turned it in to the club house where I play golf to the lost and found. It was a very nice PW , but it wasn't mine, and somebody is probably going to be upset when they go play golf again, and it ain't in their bag. I've lost a SW at the same course, leaving it a few holes behind, and the golfers behind us had it , and returned it to me. I'm going to have labels printed up for all my clubs with personal information, and my phone #, in case I ever lose another club. I hope golfers everywhere turn in clubs when they find them. It could be YOUR club someone finds one day, and it might not be returned.

I also do the same. Plus if you already have one what do you need another one for? Last year I left my putter cover in the cart rack on accident and I never found it. If the person how found it was decent enough to turn it in like a good sameritin I wouldn't have had to buy a new one. Still upsets me that someone would do that.

You didn't happen to find the carrying case to my new laser range finder did you? First time on the course with my new toy and I lost the case!

I think everyone should turn items found in at the clubhouse. I haven't lost a club in many years, but the one I did lose was a Ping Zing 2 SW. Back then, that was big bucks for me. I hope the ******* that found it, and didn't turn it in, enjoyed digestive problems for years afterwards. Makes me wonder about all the single irons being sold on eBay...

I found a nice putter (can't remember the brand) on the 7th hole last September. I turned it in at the turn. I was considering keeping it because I had a horrible 1980ies blade putter but it was the wrong hand. I'm sure if I held onto it by the end of the round I'd be feeling pretty bad and would've handed it over. Also if my mom saw it in my bag . . . we don't wanna go there.

I've turned in plenty over the years. Yesterday I left my new Adams Ovation 9-wood lying on the ground. Fortunately someone turned it in. I say fortunately, but I still haven't learned to hit the bugger consistantly.

Maybe they are hanging on to them for a week before they turn them in.

I wondered about that too when I read Slicer's post...

Slicer why did you wait a week to turn the club in? Why not turn it in to the lost&found the day you found it? Was the clubhouse perhaps closed by the time you finished playing and nobody was there?

I've been fortunate enough not to lose or leave a club behind on the golf course yet (knock on wood.... ), but if that ever happened I'd write the club off if it wasn't turned in to the clubhouse/pro shop within a day or two, and would probably stop calling the clubhouse to check on it after 4-5 days.

....I had to wait a week to return the club because when we finished our last hole , the club house was closed up , it was dark , and the only person there was the cart return guy. I'm not leaving a club with anyone but someone who works IN the club house. I play every sunday , so I returned it the next week. I don't , and can't , get near the golf course during the week because of work. Don't make me out to be a fool because I had to wait til the next weekend to return a club. I called the club house from work to let them know I found a club , and was returning it the next weekend. If the clubhouse is closed, you can't turn it in. It is dark when we finish our golf sometimes. I can see some people want to twist things around to make others feel bad. I actually waited a week because I knew someone would try to make something out of this thread. I don't keep what is not mine. I also give away golf stuff free to people I don't even know . Free postage , too. Don't make me out to be a jerk. You hit a wrong cord with me, sorry.

Sounds like we have a very honest bunch of golfers here - but I wouldn't expect otherwise.

A couple of years ago I lost my wedding band at the local course - drying my hands off before a shot I guess. I didn't notice it until I got home, and when I called the club to report it, they told me someone had turned in a wedding band! Unbelievable - what are the chances of that happening? I tried to find out who turned it in so I could thank them, but the person just dropped it at the pro shop and left.

Dude, lighten up. Nobody was making you out to be a jerk. You might have wanted to let us know why you kept the club for a week in your initial post. I am sure you an honest person, and had no intention of keeping the stick. What do you mean "I can see some people want to twist things around to make others feel bad. I actually waited a week because I knew someone would try to make something out of this thread"? If you knew someone was going to make something bad out of it, why start it?

Slicer, don't take offense to the previous poster's comments...in fact, he basically answered his question with his next statement. No one is out to get you here, but when you mention something like turning it in the next week, inquiring minds will begin to wonder why that was so. It wasn't done to embarrass you or make you look like a jerk.

I've turned in many clubs, headcovers etc. over the years and never gave it another thought. Last season i found a club late in the evening and the pro shop was closed so i took it home with me. The next morning i called the pro shop and told them i had found a ping 7 iron on the third hole and if anyone called about it tell them it would be there that evening. It was league night so when i headed to the course i took the club along and when i got to the course the owner of the club was there. I went to the pro shop and dropped the club off and headed to the putting green. I'm on the putting green for about five minutes and the guy that lost the club comes over there and asks me if i was the person who found his club...i reply yes and i'm thinking i would get a thanks for finding his club. Well this jerk goes into a fit of rage asking me what i did to his club saying it looks like i was hitting it off a cart path. I stood there in shock for a minute as this guy just kept on ragging on me because of the condition of his club. After a good solid minute of this guys hollering and screaming i feel my blood starting to boil so i pick up my balls from the putting green and leave. We played our match and headed to the clubhouse...me not giving this much more thought. We are in the bar enjoying a few beers after our match...here he comes again..about seven words came out of his mouth before i hop of my barstool and call this little jerk out. {this guy being 5'7" 180ish ..me 6' 255} Well my buddies jump in there and separate us quickly before anything really happened. This whole thing really upset me and i tossed and turned all night about it. This episode really makes me think about being the nice guy... clubs can just lay there as far as i'm concerned.

Are you kidding me? Next time you go to ANY course, ask the guy that cleans the cart sto see the lost headcovers. They will have a big cardboard box FULL of headcovers, iron covers, towels, putter covers, etc. Almost any course I have played will let you take a head cover if you lost one at that course!
