I got my new irons today and I LOVE them. I ordered the new Tour Edge QL (Quick Launch) irons 4-PW + SW. Some of you may have seen my numerous posting about how I needed my irons to be +1/2" and 2* upright. Thats what I got, and I couldn't be happier. I am suddenly hitting EVERY iron long and straight. It is totally unbelievable. I started out hitting the 6 iron. Long and straight. Went to the 5, same thing. Then the dreaded 4 which I normally cant hit at all, but it was WAY long and WAY straight. Then I worked my way through the rest of the irons hitting about 10 or more shots with each one. With my old irons, every single ball I hit felt like I was hitting rocks (mainly because they were usually off the toe). These irons either have a huge sweet spot or they are just plain forgiving. Since the faces were new and had lots of shine, each hit showed pretty clearly. I was consistently hitting in the center of the face. I felt much, much more comfortable in my address position. I must have got my confidence way up, because I switched to my r7 (which I have gotten better with lately) and I start hitting booming shots (at least for me) straight as an arrow and sailing over the 250 marker on the fly. Gee, can you tell that I am excited? My driver shots were the type where you don't even really feel the hit of the ball at all. You just see it sailing away from you still rising. Now I can't wait to take real lessons. The very best part of the whole thing is that I didn't really want to spend a ton of money on custom irons in case my swing changes alot during lessons. These irons were $300 before tax and there was no extra charge for the custom specs. I ordered them on Friday evening at 6PM and got them 7 days later on Tuesday afternoon. Tour edge has a lifetime warranty for the original purchaser which I hope I never need to use, but its there just in case. Bottom line is, (FOR ME) the best thing I could do for my game was custom fit clubs, and now I am ready to do the next best thing for my game which is getting formal lessons. Well, just had to share the experience.
What a confidence booster! May your shots stay straight and your clubs remain beautiful. It's amazing what a great positive experience can do for the 8 inches between the ears. Good luck.

Thanks. Now I REALLY can't wait to visit my Dad in Florida. We had already planned to play at least twice during my visit.
Great post, Kev! Happy to hear you're happy with your purchase. By the way, how did you determine your specs for the new club? Did they ask you some questions or have you provide various measurements? Or did you go somewhere and have a pro assess your needs? Just curious, as I may be looking for fitted clubs later this year.
Oh, and don't forget to update your "what's in the bag" signature!

I had been measured and hit off the strike plate three different times. Twice at the driving range by the Nike Rep and the Hogan Rep, and then again at the Golf Expo by the Ping Rep. They all said the exact same thing. !/2" longer shaft and 2* upright. I had also had other measurements done withiout hitting on the strike plate and those reps agreed. When I went in to buy the irons I talked to the pro and when he heard that the Ping and Nike Reps came up with the same numbers, he said we could use those or do another complete measure. I was in a hurry to get these ordered before this trip coming up so I trusted the previous measures. The pro at the shop knows both of the Reps that measured me and he said both those guys really know their stuff so he trusted their opinion. For anyone else thinking about new clubs, get measured. It has made a world of a difference for me.

Isn't it funny? We get fitted at the shoe store for a $40 pair of shoes but don't get fitted for $700 to $1500 sets of clubs.
I think once a golfer has been playing consistently for a year or two, any club or set of clubs he thinks about getting should be subjected at least the same level of professional fitting and sizing as a pair of shoes or a suit. Or maybe I'm taking all of the fun out of buying a driver; then hating it; then selling or giving it away; then buying a new driver: yatta, yatta, yatta.
The most incredible thing about a golf Pro advising you and club fitting is that it is FREE. Further, if you don't like the club you bought, you can get the cost refunded toward a new club until you are happy!!!! Is this a great country or what? Also, the Pro that helps me has provided great swing improvement tips, again --- free.

I concur... I recently bought a set of MP-30's from Ryun, here on GR... for the first time I'm hitting the correct flex for me in my irons, and life is grand... I haven't posted my official "These irons rule" post, because I haven't had them on the course yet... as soon as it thaws out up here, I'll give my report...
Maybe it should be said again: Get your golf clubs fitted by a pro...
Thanks. I have been to the range three days now with the new sticks and every day has been extremely productive with the irons. Yesterday, I struggle a little bit with the driver which was a disappointment since I have been doing so much better lately. I realized that my rhythm was a bit off so I adjusted my swing thoughts a touch and seem to pretty much get back on track. I think my swing plane was a bit to upright, so I adjusted my backswing to try and be deliberate about maintaining a 45* angle and it started working. I have often read, and I am now seeing first hand how important it is to be able to indentify where a breakdown in your swing is and make adjustments. My apparent ability to do that even in small measure is probably because I have some confidence now. I don't feel like every good golfer is looking at me and laughing. They may still be doing that, but I don't feel as self-conscious as I used to. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement.
