Gallery Guard for Masters

I was officiating a church league basketball game tonight and struck up a conversation with one of the coaches during half time. Somehow we started talking about the Masters and he told me that he schedules the gallery guards. I was like, "hey you're the guy I've always wanted to meet." Then he asked if I would be interested in being a gallery guard. Ummmm let me think about that for about 1 millionth of a second..... Well he gave me his card and told me to mail him a passport photo and my contact info. I hope all this goes through because I'm on cloud 10. As a gallery guard not only do you get to go to the Masters all 7 days but in May you get to play the course. Wish me luck.

Call'em what you want, if it gets me a chance to play the course I'll beat'em with a stick.

I was referring to Augusta National's edict to CBS to refer to those attending as "patrons" during the Masters telecasts.

That's certainly a great gig if you can get it! Good luck!

Whoa!!!

How cool would that be!

If you go, make sure you take your camera and get lots of pictures of Tiger. He loves that sort of thing. Really.

Wow! Talk about "divine intervention" at a church league game - makes you think there's somebody up there looking out for us

Hope it works out for you - we'll be looking for a full report come May (are you sure you won't be needing a caddie then )

I hope that guy didn't also ask you for your social security number, bank account information, and a major credit card!

Pardon me for being suspicious, but experience has taught me that most things that sound too good to be true usually are too good to be true.

You know, Pistol, I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for you and think that you are always right on target with every post. Oh yeah ... and I was wondering if you were permitted to put a foursome together for that Augusta round? And did I mention how extremely good looking you are (too far?). OK...I'm very jealous! What a great opportunity. I wish you well. I've driven by on Washington Rd...many, many times...and wondered. You may find out you lucky dog.

The Masters prefers former military men that are golfers to work the gallery guard posts. I have many friends that do this that fit that profile, as does Pistol. I have never been particularly interested in doing that for a whole week to get the round since I have played there once. If Pistol gets in I might have to reconsider and try too - it would be awesome if we could have one of our epic battles (see What did you shoot today?) at the National.

Good luck! That would be to die fore.
Imagine being at the 18th hole as the winner putts out!!!!

Check it all out, though. A friend of my has worked the Hawaiian PGA events for a number of years. He became part of teams that managed a particular green at each tournament. He says you've got to make sure you know what your duties will be, before you commit. Remember, there are all kinds of tasks that need to be attended to. What if you were assigned to direct traffic in the parking lot for 7 days?

AUGUSTA: If you get selected, GO FOR IT!

I'd clean gum off the parking lot for 7 days to get to play a round on Augusta National.
