Hi. Sorry if this posts twice. I had a glitch of some sort and it looks like my original is gone.....
Anyway, I am planning a trip to Athens Georgia, but have never been to Georgia, so I don't know what to expect. Can anyone tell me how the courses are in the Athens area? Like, ...are they busy? ...expensive? And I'm curious to know how lady-friendly they are....
If anyone could suggest some courses I should check out near there I would be so glad to hear about 'em....
I graduated from the University of Georgia and can attest to the quality/friendliness of the University of Georgia course. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones and is home to the national champion men's golf team. The greens fees will run you less then $50 including cart. You will find that it is very accomodating to men or women.
I am a member of a top 100 private course based in Atlanta. And, I will tell you that I always enjoy playing the UGA course. Have fun !!!!
I've played a few different courses there. The UGA course is very nice, and a good deal at $50. Unfortunately, I shot a HORRIBLE round there, so I wasn't much of a fan ;) I played the Georgia Club one rainy day, but I had a friend who was a waitress there, so I played cheap, I don't think it's a public course. It was probably the nicest I've played, however. I played a charity tournament at Jennings Mill Country Club (I'm pretty sure it was that one), which had some sweet GPS-equipped carts. That also might be a private course, however. The course I played the most was Lane Creek, a cheap ($30 for a cart on a weekday, if memory is correct) public course. I was going to a Navy school when I was in Athens, so we'd sneak away at lunch and play a quick 9 once a week, and probably play a full 18 twice a week. It wasn't in the best shape, greens-wise, but it was never crowded, and was a very low-key place to play.

Thanks, acndog.
Looks great, and I see they also have a driving range!
I'm so glad you posted this. I have this silly misconception that I can find everything I need just by surfing the web, but I just wasn't finding this....
Thanks again!

Thanks, Chris. I'll check these out! Lane Creek sounds like my kind of place (not too crowded....!). I really appreciate the heads up on these. I wasn't finding anything on-line and I'd hate to just show up with no plan....!

Not a problem, Bobbi. BTW, I've not been to a golf course in GA that doesn't have a driving range. All those I listed did. Enjoy your trip to Athens!

Hey Chris, - that's great to know. Thanks!
Courses with a pratice range are a little scarce where I live....
(And I HATE to take a Mulligan on the first tee....!) ;o)
