and just could not get rid of your old set? I just purchased a new set of powerbilt grand slams and they are great, but I am still trying to get used to them. I replaced an old set of TPS irons and I really loved them but they are over 10 years old. I wanted an updated set but I am having I guess you could say some separation anxiety with them. I have considered either selling the old irons and letting them help someone else learn the game the way they did for me, or selling the new ones and just having the old ones reshaft with graphite. Anyone else gone through this after the purchase of a new set of irons? Keeping both seems a little pointless but I hate to get rid of them.
I just bought a new set of irons two weeks ago and luckily i,m getting on great guns,my old iron grips were so bad the clubs were falling out of my hands and buying new was,nt much different in cash from getting new grips,is there any difference shafts,ie steel, graphite,if not then perhaps in a few weeks you will get used to them,i would say put your old clubs away out of sight and give it a few weeks, sometimes we can get psycholgically thrown by change,ie if everytime you swing your new clubs you are thinking about your old ones then its bound to interfere as you are not using the new ones with confidence but perhaps if given a chance they will do a good job
I'm on my sixth set of iron since I took up the game in 1961. The only two sets I regret not keeping are my first set of clubs, 1960 Wilson Staff's, and a set of Ping Eye 2's that were in great condition.
If you're never going to use the 2nd set anymore, and if they have no sentimental or re-sale value, better to give them to someone who can use them - maybe a new golfer?
I also have that problem. It just feels like I'm letting go of something else with them. My R540XD's are only my second set so my first set I was going to get rid of but couldn't. I let my brother use them for the time being.
I have the same problem. bought a set of Titleist 690 mb's last season, and can't get rid of my 16 year old Ping Eye2's. I will never use them, as I love blades now, but there is a sentimental value to the Pings... a college graduation gift from my parents.
Give your old irons to a family member or friend. That way if you REALLY need tham back, you can just trade them the upgraded set!
That is so true. Every year my dad buys the latest and greatest ping irons, he now owns the G5 irons and I was passed down his G2 irons, poor me, huh? He has some I3's sitting a home, among various other irons, drivers, etc.
