Puting More Fun into the Match
An old friend and I play once a week together in a singles match. His handicap is about 18 - 20 over mine and after years of playing strictly by handicap (we play for lunch), we decided to jazz things up a bit. Same number of handicap strokes, but on the front nine we each get one mulligan putt and one mulligan shot - we also get one anti-mulligan of each. Example: "That was a great iron shot, you're only a foot from the hole! Now, do it again!" We don't use one to cancel out the other, so there is usually some funny business on nearly every hole. On the back nine we use a kick and a throw, although we don't move a ball on the green or direct the opponent's ball into a hazard or out of bounds. There are lots of trees around though. And I know this butchers the rules of golf, but we're usually still laughing as we finish lunch.
