Question: How much consistency should you have developed before being fitted?
Obviously the best way to fit someone, is if their swing is repeatable, bad or good, a qualified fitter can work either angle, and help improve upon some faults.
If the swing is not repeatable whatsoever, (the majority of us) then getting fit for physical attributes/measurements, is probably gonna help increase your consistency if you had clubs just not totally fir for you.
