Anyone ever hurt their ribs!

I hurt my ribs playing church basketball 3 weeks ago and still can not swing a golf club. It is getting better but I have my big golf trip in two weeks. I think they are just bruised. How long does this take to heal? This is a bad injury for a golfer.

Been there, done that. Time is the only cure for bruised or broken ribs. My advise is to take it as easy as possible for the next few weeks and try not to aggravate them. If you play golf or basketball before your trip it will take alot longer for them to heal.

Funny you should ask

since I'm just about healed too. For me it started when I went flying over the handle bars of a motorcycle and hit the pavement spread eagle at about 40-45 mph. That was in '78 and it still comes back once in a while. Hurts like @#$% for about three days, then takes about seven days to heal. So don't push it!

Believe it or not, healing time is relative to your driving license.

There's a little box on there that indicates your birthdate....in particular the year part(ccyy). The lower the number, the longer it takes to heal.....but thankfully golf is one of those things that you can enjoy for a long, long time.

oh man, i know the feeling. i bruised two ribs on my left side over a month ago. i was playing the next week, but a three quarter swing was about all i could manage until last week. not sure if i would have healed sooner had i not played every week since my accident...most likely i would have.

I dislocated two ribs last fall picking up my niece. She is one and lifted her over my head and just felt everything seize up. I walked around like a 90 year old man for a couple of days before I went to a chiropractor and he told me they were dislocated. The amount of relief was amazing after he popped them back in.

There will always be a bruise, a strain, a wrench, etc. Those will just heal with time- although some do take longer than others. I unfortunately play with 2 injuries that are more chronic- even though we are about the same age.

The tendons that connect the very top of your arm w/ your shoulder have always been a problem for me- 6 years now. I pulled those on my left arm( I'm righty) one day so bad, it hurt to sleep, let alone play golf. I played for 1 whole year with a 1/2 to 3/4 back swing. 6 years later I still feel the uncomfortable pull in there w/ my full swing.

When I was 12, I was thrown off a horse that was almost in a full run. I went airborne, violently hit the ground and threw my back out -ruptured 2 discs. I was a strong healty athletic kid, and I've suffered thru this back problem ever since that day - my whole life.

So, my lesson to you, don't worry about a thing, just wait it out and try NOT to re-aggravate it - your lucky.
