playing in the rain?

Anyone plays golf in the rain?
light rain.
I played friday during a light drizzle, with incoming fog in the canyons along with a cool breeze.
Greens rolled slow and soggy,
while the fairways hardly rolled the ball, most of the shots rolling backward after a prominant ball mark
and the mucky roughs slowed my irons like grass glue.
Nevertheless my golf played well, had fun and stayed dry and warm with waterproof FootJoys, Gore-tex garbs, and a wool hat. I don't use gloves.
Although replacing the muddy spewed divots took some doing.
Really like the quiet and the solitude, no one else was playing and only a few deers grazing about.

the memorable shot: 1st hole uphill long par 4 tee shot followed by a 5-wood to the greens...then three putted

Surely, I'll play if it's just a light rain.

I'll go out and play if its a light rain or if I get on the course and it starts raining really hard then I will keep playing. But I usually won't go out if it's just a downright pour of rain like if it feels as if it's coming down in buckets.

I don't head out in the rain, but I don't head in unless it's a pretty good downpour.

Light rain is fine.

We need some down here in SE GA. I took visiting BILaw to a course that hadn't discovered how to irrigate or use available water, and it was like playing in a parking lot, or rather just one big cartpath wih mounds. Greens were aerated and no sand or rolling. Putts jumped all over and all around . We both shot 24 over..LOL . He likes my home course now..so much for the muni.

Light rain is fine.

I will only start a round in the rain if I have too, match or something.
Once played when a deluge hit on back nine. Played the last in tee-shirt and pants, brolly on bag no hat or waterproofs. I just couldn't have got any wetter. Comp was cut to 9 holes.

It seems my rain gear has found a home in my bag over the past month or so. team play has been going on so it's a must play event, rain or no rain. I've found the walking is the best way to deal with the rain. Your so busy keeping the towel dry, gloves in the pockets, etc. it actually raises your concentration levels. Played a City Championship a month ago and it started to hail. Some kid in my group tried to putt through it (without even trying to clean his line) and 3 jacked a 15' straight uphill putt. Knucklehead.

I've played in the rain.. I actually kind of enjoy it (as long as it's somewhat light). It makes for a nice change every once in a while.

One time towards the end of my first year playing I remember going to a small 9 hole par 3 course for some iron practice, and the fairways were flooded, but underneath the ground. It was pretty cool (and weird) jumping up and down and having the ground wave back and forth

So long as I can still hold the grips, i'll play. I may not enjoy it, but i'll play. In Vancouver, if you don't get used to playing in the rain, you don't really get out at all from October until May. That said, it does get annoying after the first few holes when you realize even your driver is getting about a foot of "backspin" that is, when it doesn't plug

it's been real wet up here in northern california for way too long. i've played my last few rounds in the rain and probably up around 12 rounds total this rainy season. i feel that playing in the rain can only help a golfer in the long run. it really forces you to play a different game. playing for no roll, shooting at pins...club selection, a lot changes when the ground is wet. lift clean and place is a nice option to have as well as. overall, it takes that much more concentration to not think about the rain and put a good swing on the ball. it's been fun, but can someone please make the rain stop? i'm ready for a sunny day on the course with my cigars.

rain doesn't really put me off if I'm already out there & if its simply persistently drizzly then I'm happy to suit up. If it happens to really come down whilst playing, my reaction is rather blasé. Having said that, add wind & freezing conditions to that. I'll think twice about playing. Freezing rain in the face was always one of my pet hates when I used to do a lot of hill walking when a lot younger. Cold with steadily falling rain is fine as I can always think warm & wind & rain is fine if its not cold. I'd also think twice on dry days that were cold & windy.

I always check the weather channel or website in the clubhouse to see what's coming in. If it's not raining, I'm definitely heading out even if there's rain coming. If it's already raining, I check to see whether there's hope of it letting up anytime soon before I make my choice. This past summer was as good a summer as one could ask for though...I never got rained out in any round and only a couple times did I have to come off the course during a round before resuming. I already got as wet in the third round I played this year as I got while playing all last year.

Actually I kinda like playing in the rain whether its a lot or just sprinkling. As long as i have my water proof stuff on and a jacket im good.... plus its more of a challenge to play in the rain. But if lighting is around you can find me in the clubhouse for sure.

Doesnt bother me...

Some keys to playing the rain (...in Southern California)

Gotta be able to...
- make solid contact
- control your iron trajectory (high and low trajectory)
- carry your drives (high trajectory for more carry, less roll)
- stay dry... believe me its almost an art and is easier to do walking
- remember that most of your apponents are dreading the elements
