I am wanting to get a golf scholarship to play in college. Someone told me that if you win some money before then and they find out you wont be given a scholarship since you are an amateur. Does anyone know the limit on money you can receive in contests and such or anthing on this topic. I have received a little money from winning closest to the pin contests at a few fundraiser tournaments with not many people... the amount was around $50.
Basically i just wanted to see if anybody knew anything about this. I dont want to accept money if it will hurt my scholarship chances.

You've got nothing to worry about. What NCAA wants is for no outside influences on your game...sponsors or anything like that.
Basically the NCAA will only press issues with is if you qualify for a PGA or LPGA in your case, or mini-tours, is if you break through to the final round and your standing has a prize money, you must reject it to maintain amateur status. Accepting the money will make you a professional. Outings are amateur events.
I thought the prize money was up to $750 or something like that, but just dont do anything to bring yourself into professional status. Basically dont play golf for profit....lol
As stated above, go to www.usga.org and read the rules of amateur status. Winning prizes over a certain amount no matter where you win them will take away your amateur status, and the NCAA will not let you play in college.
Yeah, I hate the fact that I end so many threads by bringing actual facts into them.
I went to the web site and looked at the rules which apply to the USGA are these the same complete set of rules that apply to the NCAA? I would suggest you go to www.ncaa.org to make sure.

Why would anyone do that when they can just offer advice that they think is right?
I wouldn't want advice from someone who thinks they're right. I would want it from someone who knows they're right.
By providing a link to a website that has the applicable rules, he is offering the thread creator an opportunity to go read EXACTLY what the rules are in this matter.

Leaguegolf's "think is right" post was a joke, and I responded with a joke. He had already provided the factual answer in an above post.
I read through the USGA thing about the limit and saw that it was $750 unless you make a hole-in-one prize that exceeds the limit in which case does not count towards the limit.
