Virgin Golfer looking to join first Club

Hey all...

Had a few lessons and on my day i can play pretty tidy and two put most greens, even 1 putt if my shot on the green is decent, but i can honestly say im a 2.4 putter ;) And i belive and also my instructor advised to progress any further i need to play regularly and join a club.

Just wondered, what should i be looking for in a Golf Club? Clubs are rife in South Wales. Some cost £400 a year. Some cost £3k to join and 2k a year!

In the summer, what are the early tee of times? Im up early and wouldnt mind getting up a bit earlier to have 9 holes or even 18 before i start work. Some have said you can tee off as early as 6am if its light!?

Are you allowed to play Solo? Personally i rather go round 3 or 5 times on my own to learn the course before i start joining in competitions and playing with others etc

Thanks for any input! :)

I'm in a similar boat myself.

Playing 2 years now and shooting low/mid 80's and looking to join a club. The only thing thats stopped me so far is that a) its not cheap and i play alot of other sports b) with 2-4-1 vouchers, twilight rounds etc i can golf pretty cheap this time of year c) playing the same course even with altered t/flag positions could get alittle repetitive.

I do intend to join a course next year to get an official handicap so i can play some more exclusive courses but shelling out £800+ is hard to do. Alot of my local courses offer 6am t-off times this time of year. I prefer twilight rounds of 9/18 as a single during the week for value and the chance to experiment with shots/clubs. I've got the golfing bug bad it seems and joining a club may well see me ditch alot of my other sports and spend too much time playing, much to the better half's dismay!! i do fancy starting to play in competitions though to see how i handle the pressure Good luck.

I got an Assessment tonight for a club i'd like to join. Its got a 12 hole course which range from 74 yards to a 550 yard par 5. Its got a bit of everything!. Putting practice, bunker practice, chippin practice and a range.

I plan to play 3 times a week. One early on my own,T-Off around 6:30am (work is 15 mins down the motorway!). Once on Sunday, and prob go on the 12 holer for the short game midweek.

To pay for that, would cost £60 a week (£25 per 18 holes, £8 for the 12 holer). Joining is only around £48 a month. Also, i need a handicap to play any other 18 holer as there all decent clubs down here :(

Next, i plan on joining a new course if im playing decently. Benefit from having 2 great 18 hole courses. And its 5 mins from work ;)
