Legally Cheating!

League might like this one.

How many ways can you legally cheat within the Rules of Golf?

Heres one, I hit the worst Tee-shot of the round and the ball disappears over a line of trees which separate the hole I am playing from another.

I declare that I will hit a "Provisional Ball" (Rule 27-2) and do so. I only want to 'Iron out' the flaw that caused the bad shot and know that there should be no problem finding the original ball.

If I hit the second ball the same as the first I could also declare a second "Provisional" or even a third.

All in all, I am practicing within the Rules during a round.

Can't say that I haven't done the same. Sometimes you just have to let the rules work for you.

Go on the USGA site and look up the schedule of rules courses (co-sponsored by the USGA & PGA). Take one of the courses and it will open your eyes to the rules and the spirit of the game.

If your ball goes over a line of trees, you really might not be able to find it. I see nothing wrong with playing a provisional. If you are sure that it can be found(You saw it land), then this is definitely against the spirit of the game.

Hmmm...sounds kind of like a 5 hour round of golf...maybe I've played behind someone using this philosophy...
