Head covers for Irons

Anyone use Head Covers on the Irons? Just bought a set of Callaway X-18's and want to make sure they dont get bashed or scratched during transport.

Just wondered if anyone knew of a real nice set of Head Covers

using head covers for your irons is a dead giveaway that you are new to golf. i also think they look dumb and are a pain to take on and off. your clubs are much more likely to get messed up out on the course while playing than during transit. i would say dont bother with the covers and congrats on the new set.

I think there was another thread on this a while back and most people said they like headcovers on their irons.

I use headcovers for my irons, but only during transport. At the course they all come off and stay in the trunk. I use the cheap neoprene ones from walmart. They're cheap and work fine.

Actually, I think the golfers that think iron covers are stupid chose to ignore that thread so as not to "bash" fellow GR members.

I have forged irons, so I put them on every other iron in my bag to keep the dings to a minimum.
Oh, and I've been playing for 6 or 7 years and am a 8 handicap.....hardly "new to golf"

Like hackblack said, most people think iron headcovers are for noobs, but I think the problem is when you keep taking them on and off during the round.

The set I bought last year was the first to include them. I ditched them after a couple of rounds. Too much hassle for too little benefit as far as I could tell. To each his own, though. I've been playing for 40 years, FWIW.

My husband has been playing golf for about 40 years, and he uses iron covers on the antique Wilson forged irons he plays with (they are beautiful and they look brand new). He makes me use them on my irons, although I find them annoying at times. Most of the time our clubs are in the back of his pickup. Since he made the investment in my clubs, it's not that big of a deal to use them and my irons look great.

I got a set of Iron head covers when I got my first clubs (this time around.) In addition to helping keep the irons looking nicer they help minimize the damage from the bashing of an iron head against that $200 shaft in your driver.

Since I am used to them I put them on and take them off without even thinking about it...I can put them on while watching the shot while walking back across the fairway to the cart on "cart path only" days.

Club Glove makes sets and Iron Glove does also...slightly different design, There are also some that actually go down the shaft 6 or 8 inches and zip on, protects the graphite shafts in the irons too.

ALSO it keeps them quieter when you are bouncing or walking down the fairway, it doesn't disturb the guy trying to make an Eagle putt 3 greens over.

Does the re-chroming remove the playing marks?

I use them...cheap ones from wal-mart...they keep the forged heads looking new and ding free...irons aren't cheap and I don't replace my clubs often (last set was 8 years).
