I've had two golf blogs for a couple of months now, as well as a website full of original short stories and humor. I've registered them at dozens of search engines, blog aggregators, and all have feeds. I get no traffic, no comments, no email.
This isn't an ad, because I'm not selling anything at all, but I'm just wondering what you folks read.
What do you read? What do you like to read? Do you like to respond -- online, to the magazine editor? Or do you like it all loose, like this forum?
So, this is kind of a poll. I am very interested in having you simply note here what mags you read, what blogs you post on, etc. Also...tell me what you are missing, what you'd like to see as far as golf-oriented entertainment: parody, satire, true stories from the publinx...? Do you get golf feeds (there are many, many of them)?
I will plug your golf blogs at my golf website if you want. I'll check it out first. I also offer blogs to anyone that wants one. I could set up a blog for you and you could link to your blogs. You could make a "best of" from your other blogs. It would help with content at my site, too. Just send me a PM or go to my site.
As far as reading about golf goes, it has mainly just been my site and Golf Rewind. I need to get out more hehe.
You could also just google "SEO" and you'll get a ton of sites that might help.
Thanks very much. Unlike this site, my blogs aren't commercial at all. My goals are communication and entertainment. I don't sell a darned thing. Thanks for the shhhhh links .....(I was PM'd by the admin here that they don't allow links, and they were taken off my signature!)

Well, there is still a lot of info there on those sites to get more visitors to your site, even if your intentions are commercial. Good luck with it.
I see links in a few members sigs...why was yours removed?
From the Rules/FAQ created by Golf Rewind's owner:
No use of Golf Rewind for commercial purposes
Absolutely no commercial advertising is allowed on any part of Golf Rewind, including our "Marketplace" forum. This includes using Golf Rewind to conduct a survey as well as promoting products, services or Web sites in your posts, signature or username. You may however post a direct link to an outside site (such as a news article or editorial) if you believe it will be helpful to others. This rule also covers Web sites such as personal Web sites or blogs which you run.
Those few that have links in their Signatures have them with the owner's approval. Anyone that wishes to promote their personal web sites/blogs here on Golf Rewind are welcome to contact Victory and make the appropriate arrangements. Until the moderating team is informed otherwise.........no links.
I see. Rules are rules, but that doesn't make a whole heck of alot of sense to me. Don't know about anyone else. I mean you can't have links to your own sites in your signature, unless you contact the owner, and then more than likely he'll tell you that you can so why not cut out the middle man and allow it? Especially since Victory only drops in once a year.
Please Note: I'm not arguing with you League, and I don't have a site that I wish to put in my sig. Just didn't think that made sense.
I can't speak for Victory but I believe the intent is to avoid "free advertising" to other sites. You don't go into a GM dealership with a "Buy a Chrysler" sign. There's millions of personal web sites and blogs on the internet, so why should GR allow anyone to advertise their web sites/blogs for free? We have a difficult time weeding out the spammers as it is.
Yeah I understand the why. I just think if it was went about the right way, he could bring even more visitors to GW. Maybe allow members here to only post links in their sig, if the website in the sig contained a link back to GW? Then everyone that already knew about the blog/site/etc...would be exposed to GW?
That is just one way. There are also pugins/modifications out there that will make it so your signature is not able to be indexed by search engines. I'm sure this is what Victory is worried about (as is alot of forum owners). All these website publishers join forums when they have a new site open up, place their links in their sigs and it's free Search Engine Optimization because you're getting a backlink to your site, from a popular site/forum (which helps your ranking in Search Engines). When I was working on my web design portfolio, I placed the link in three forums I was participated in and it was crazy how many unique hits I as getting to the site.

I could understand that if my links were commercial. They are editorial. They are humor. There are more links in posts here that can steal traffic from this site than any blog I want to link to, which would, in fact, help promote this site. I don't get it, or why I was singled out (I don't fall into your code there. I was asking for opinions, not a poll. I'm a writer, not an advertiser. I don't sell a darned thing).
Also, interlinking is what is expanding the Internet. It's not advertising like they used it 5 years ago. That's backward thinking. It's linkbacks and trackbacks and interlinking within a given subject group. That's the key. To keep the traffic on-topic, so they will come back to your site.
You should encourage links to sites that expand the awareness of your subject and your site. You should not allow commercial links of any kind, especially to off-topic subjects.
Well, it's your little site. Just remember that it was the free exchange of ideas that created the Internet we enjoy today.

Supporting members; ie, those that pay Victor $40 yearly, are allowed this privilege explained HERE. As long as Victor owns the site we're going to abide by the rules and quite frankly, as a mod, it's enough work policing this site for content without researching every site someone decides to link to in order to confirm its suitability for GR.
