i did my driver and 7 wood with lambkin crosslines and my irons (3-pw) and 58* with golf pride tour velvets. I cut my driver down a good 6 inches and now the 7 wood is longer but that driver had to be shorter due to the 4* upright hosel. I didnt know that until my lesson on the 8th of june when danny shanz of congressional country club picked it up and looked at it and said, its 4* upright and has a draw weighting bias, its completely wrong for your swing... that wasnt good. Hopefully cutting it down will help and it will be lighter for me too ill take a good 6-7oz off it...
are you out of your mind? no one cuts a driver down 6 inches period. the lie angle of a driver is not all that important and majority of them, 98%, are within 2* of each other. if it was important, the manufactures would be making different lie drivers for shorter and taller people. fire your coach!
6 inches is very extreme, but I know he is a younger person so maybe he is less then 5 foot tall ? with 6 foot tall guys using 43" drivers on tour maybe a 39-40" driver would be just right.
I am thinking of taking of 1 inch or 1.5 inches off all my clubs. I took 1.5 inches off my driver and I am hitting it longer. I feel much more confident with the shorter driver. The more upright swing plane has also reduced my right to left.
You guys, and especially titleistman66, cutting anything significant off of any clubs will change the swingweight. And 6 inches off of anything, you might as well throw it away or get it re-shafted. Adding an inch to a club won't hurt as much because you'll be able to feel the clubhead but shortening your clubs, unless done by someone qualified who can adjust the swingweight, is not a good idea at all. A half inch, you can add some lead tape but 6 inches? They don't make that much tape. Titleistman66, please take your clubs to your nearest clubfitter and see what they can do for you. Please don't do anything else to any of your clubs before doing this.
