the mountains

there are many beautiful, professional golf courses built in many of nature's features: the desert, the forest, the ocean (ala pebble beach). But I fail to think of a single professional course that is built in, in my opinion, nature's most beautiful feature, the moutains. There is Tiger Wood's course that was built in california, but those aren't mountains, just hills. I'm talking real mountains, snow capped. I realize that, obviously, you can't build a course right in the mountains. I would be very difficult to get to and it would be quite cold. The whole course would be slanted too (however it would be a great place to work on hitting on an uphill lie ). But I just think it would be great if a course were built with the mountains in the background, the closer the better. Maybe a creek coming down off the mountains could be a water hazard. Are there any professional caliper courses like this?

Castle Pines, where the International will be played next month, is in the Rockies outside of Denver. Then there's Cherry Hills, where several PGA, LPGA, and Senior Tour events have been held.

There are probablt hundreds, if not thousands, of championship courses in the U.S. alone that are built in mountainous areas. Most have short seasons due to weather, and are usually in an area where they also have skiing.

Here's some I found with a quick Google search of "mountain golf":
New Hampshire - http://www.applemountaingolfresort.net/
California - http://www.ragged-mt.com/
Nevada - http://www.golfincline.com/
Utah - http://www.golfwasatch.com/courses/index.htm
Idaho - http://www.cdaresort.com/golf/index.php

Just afew, but maybe not exactly what you're looking for.

Red Tail Country Club in TN (used to be Roan Valley GC but recent name change) is a great mountain course. I think that on some holes you could kick your ball off the tee and it would reach the green 140 yards away.
