that's a tough one...GIR is certanly a big one, but fairways hit may be just as big in my game...I'll have to do more research...Gee, I guess that means I'll have to put in a little more time at the golf course.

I'm telling you it fairways, well for me at least

These are my stats for this year over at MGD according to number of fairways hit.

0-7 fairways hit
Ave Score 73.8
GIR 55%

8-15 fairways hit
Ave Score 72.9
GIR 61%

Here's the same comparsion for everyone else on MGD

0-7 fairways hit
Ave score 85.8
GIR 38%

8-15 fairways hit
Ave score 80.3
GIR 48%

The reason I only went to 15 fairways is most courses have 3 or maybe 4 par 3's

Fairways are the most important stat. If you aren't on the short grass on a regular basis pressure builds on the short game and scores can commence to blow out. Putting stats are second but again can be misleading. If you are hitting a lot of GIR the majority of your putts could be from 20++ feet henceforth bringing a three putt into the equation.

Better putting lowers scores dramatically.

But if your in the fairway opposed to the rough you have a easier shot. If you have an easier shot then you are more likely to put the ball closer to hole leading to a shorter putt than out of the rough. The shorter putt you have the better the chance you have of scoring.
