Isn't it odd that we don't want them to dump us but at the same time we can't wait until they leave? I think men started feeling this way right about the same time that women learned how to speak.

Believe me, women often feel the same way about men!!!
What's that old joke? Adam asks God, "God, why'd you make Eve so beautiful?" and God says, "So you would love her." Then Adam asks God, "Then why did you make her so dumb?" and God says, "So she would love YOU." Not that my wife is dumb...she is beautiful, though...(Man, I hate it when she reads over my shoulder!)
I'm lucky, my wife understands my golf obsession, so she doesn't bust my chops about playing, even if I practice every day after work. But it does seem sweeter to play when they're out of town. You feel like you're really living it up.
An architect, an artist and an engineer were discussing whether it was better to spend time with the wife or a mistress. The architect said he enjoyed time with his wife, building a solid foundation for an enduring relationship. The artist said he enjoyed time with his mistress, because of the passion and mystery he found there.
The engineer said, "I like both." "Both?" the others said. "Yeah", replied the Engineer. "If you have a wife and a mistress, they will each assume you are spending time with the other woman, and you can go to the lab and get some work done."
Replace "Engineer" with "Golfer" and "Lab" with "Links"
My wife took up the game while we were dating because she knew how important golf was to me (and I told her as much so there would be no misunderstanding, taking up the game was her idea). We've been playing together twice a week for years (including vacations) and love it.
My wife is very understanding of my love for golf (and sports in general). She tries not to complain about me playing golf and I try not to overdo it. I think we compromise pretty well. I can't complain.
My wife occasionally tells me to go out, often if I am vacillating over whether to go or to stay to appease her. Golf is pretty much my only way of letting off the steam of a hectic work week, along with my other responsibilities. But it's give and take, sometimes I have to forego a round to keep everything shipshape at home.
So when she takes the kids away, I'm cramming in as much golf as possible!
My lovely wife is also a golfer and I occasionally get "Would you mind if I went out golfing with the girls on Thursday?" I love it. We go about once a week in the summer.
