played my best tournament golf ever

76-71-73
got me 2nd place in the 3rd flight but I heading the right direction

1st round putting was blah
2nd round putting got better but still missed some 3 footers
3rd round putting was very good conditions were tougher

hit the ball about the same all three rounds

still choking from 100 yds or in from the middle of the fairway about 2x a round ... laying sod over it or coming up short w/ weak contact that needs to go away real soon

anyway, I have really improved and that's what it's all about
when you get to -3 two rounds in a row ... thats getting some results
granted I would like to stay at -3 but still have some tidding up to do

I'm really improving I feel it and I love it

nice going man, tournament golf is not easy, i was playing in a group with one of my buddies and he topped one in front of 60 people, he was totally embarrased and i felt real bad, but he still made 5, real pressure its good you could get consistent by the end of the tourney

shot 76 first day and you were in the third flight ? Must be some great golfers there. They must of shot 62-64 first day ?
At my place it is usually on average
Championship flight 70-78
1st flight 79-85
2nd flight 86-93
3rd flight 94 and up.

I find competition golf nerve racking too. I once topped a tee shot on the first hole. But hey, It's very useful getting used to the pressure.

If I was you, keep playing in them, You'll soon get used to the people watching which will be good for the future.

And as NikeSlingshot06 said: Nice Going.

Congrats. There's nothing like playing a great tournament round. Sounds like you dealt with the pressure pretty well.

Great job. I agree with everyone that tourney golf is a different beast.

I'm assuming that by the -3 comment, that those are your net scores. Either way, great job and keep it up.

McGuire - I used to practice with my sand wedge on a part of range that has a small target green at 100 yards. This was separate from the driving range. I'd pace off 30, 40, 50, etc. yards from the flag and hit a half dozen balls from each distance (marked the location with tees). This gave a good distance feel and let me hit those "tweener" shots with much more confidence on the course. Hope this helps.
