I found a Ping driver the other week in a bin on the course with its shaft, snapped IN 3!!! I decided that instead of it being thrown away and disposed of, i decided to take it away asked the shop to put a new shaft on it i think it was a bubble shaft, that the driver originally had. Anyway its a beauty, ive bin hittign that thing like never before. I guess one mans rubbish is another mans gold

I'm playing a Taylor Made Burner that I found at a yard sale. Bought it for $5.00 (they were asking 25.00 but my wife talked them down to $5.00! She's a great shopper...but I nearly passed a hairball when she offered the lady $5.00 AND SHE TOOK IT! I'm thinking the husband came home from the course and had a fit when he found out) I love the thing. It's not state of the art but I hit it great and it's got at least a few hundred good shots left in it.
Sounds like you got a good thing, crawford! Just because clubs are old doesn't mean they won't work!
Talking about finding a great deal, I remember coming to my parent's house on leave for a visit over Christmas holidays in 1993. My mom showed me a set of almost brand new Titleist clubs, with a matching leather tour bag, head covers, etc. She had just picked them up at a garage sale the previous weekend for $25! The lady said her husband had moved out, filed for divorce and took off to Vail for the holidays with his secretary! So she was selling all his stuff! My mom bought them just because she knew she could get more for them if none of us in the family wanted them.
Well, at that time I wasn't playing golf, and hadn't really played for years. And our car was already overloaded with stuff to take back home, so I declined her offer to give me the clubs. About a month later they held a charity scramble at the base course, and I was talked into playing. Thinking about those clubs, I called mom to see if she would send them to me. Just my luck, she had sold them to someone at church for $200 two weeks earlier!
Reminds me of a Tony Penna driver I came into many years ago. I was playing in Charleston, SC and we got to the 9th tee just as the last player in the group ahead was hitting. After teeing off he whacked the clubhead into the ground and said, "For two dollars, I'd sell this ..... thing." I walked over, held out my hand and he placed the club in it. I took several practice swings, gave him two dollars and played with the driver for the next ten years.
