I could use some help here. Next year I have the unfortunate "honor" of being Tournament Chair at our club next year and the question of Gross and Net payouts is becoming an issue that I get to deal with.
How is the payout structure at your club handled? We pay out top 4 in both gross and net for each flight. The past few months the current chair has been favoring gross payout amount versus net (I.E.- 1st gross might pay $10 more than 1st Net). In the past we have paid an amount equal to 50/50 for both gross and net.
I could use some world wide advice on this one. By the way, the payouts are credit vouchers that can only be used at our club. -Adam

I try to pay 1/4 to 1/3 of the field. My guys seem to prefer more guys getting something than a few getting all the money. If it is 4 places, the percentage payout is 40%, 30, 20, 10. No one in the money wins less than their entry fee.

I usually don't pay but one or two places gross if we're using handicaps. 3 places gross if we have more than 80 players. We pay an equal amount for net 1st and gross 1st.

We also use credit in the pro-shop, which is occasionally an issue because our pro doesn't like to give discounts or sale prices to guys who use shop/tournament credit.
