This place is one of the best kept secrets around these parts (it's nestled on the Illinois/Wisconsin border)
I'm playing the "professional" tees with an 2.6 handicapper and a 5.3. (I'm currently a 9.4). I can keep up with these guys without embarrassing myself, that's not the problem. The question is- how do you play a course you're not familiar with, esp. of this caliber, and to get the most out of your day- and round? If you look at the hole descriptions and card, you can see the par 4 yardages we're playing (hole 1,2, and 15- sheez) . I cannot hit the ball as far as these guys, nor do I know anything about course-management with this unfamiliarity.
Any opinions and advice I'll appreciate and take to this formidable and intimidating track. Thank you. (I passed up a free ticket to the Bears game for this round- which is fine!)

Enjoy the day, enjoy the course, enjoy the company but most of all, enjoy yourself...............don't spare a thought for those of us who are earning points (we call them "brownie" points here in the UK) with domestic chores in order to get a 'pass' for next weekend's golf.....I'm fitting new work-tops to the kitchen tomorrow, I won't think of you if you don't think of me........deal??
I would say as others have stated play your own, game as for course management you cant do anything about it, if you are a 9 handicaper, you should feel confident in your game, and basically just enjoy it, and the experience. Keep us updated!
And you don't HAVE to play the back tees if you are not comfortable with it. If it's going to make it a less enjoyable experience, play the tees you would normally play.
Good luck!
You'll probably dust both of them! I heard they are both out at the bar ordering shots!

Now that's a quality post. If he's playin' for money I doubt they'll let him scoot up. Oh ya, they're drinkin'...you're sure of it. I think you just like to post.
LE, what kind of advice do you think you're gonna get from this discussion board that's gonna help you beat those guys or post a quality score? Bring your game with ya. Trust it. Why ya gittin' so hinky? Don't you realize that by coming here for advice that you're admitting defeat before the first tee shot? If you're not ready to play then cancel.
I used to play with these guys often, not so much anymore. They have established these handicaps at a prestigious and a championship course- they're no slackers- great players. They ABSOLUTELY CRUSH THE BALL. Greg hits his 1 iron 260 - and he'll be the first to tell you. Playing at this course, with Greg and Chuck make me a better player. I'll probably shoot a 92-95, they'll fire 78s.
I just want to know how to manage a course like this - with my own game, at a course I don't know- How do you guys play Champoinship tracks when you don't know it's layout? I need a quick fix I guess. Thanks guys.
Play within yourself. I don't know how far you hit it, but a few of those par 4s would be 3-shot holes for me and I'd play them accordingly. I couldn't handle that place from 7100 yards and I'd say so. Play away from trouble. Have fun.

That's the whole problem, I don't know where the trouble lurks. Hitting driver at the tee from 482 for example. I hit the ball 250-270 on my drive- that could hurt me. I think I'll play for 3 shots from the tee on all those huge par 4s. But, with a good drive, and a well struck 3-wood I can get it close to pay-dirt- but, should I even try?
I'll get there early, hit the range, try to learn the course and greens as much as possible, and try to make the best of decisions. Tomorrow are the days that make me smile- whatever the score- man, I love this game.
I'll leave details after Da Bearrrz lose to the Seahawks on the night game.
A full round of golf at a championship layout- then a huge Bears football party in the evening afterward on National TV? should I just call into work on Monday now and just get it over with?

Now you're talking. Get a yardage book if they have one. A good one helps me tremendously on unfamiliar layouts. Good Luck !

Sorry, I'll just keep to myself.
Actually, I'll spend some time going through all of your 1040 posts to make sure they are 'quality'...

I agree with Waz...get a yardage book if they have one. I have a SkyCaddie, and though I know some people hate them, they're great for playing a new course (if the course was mapped by the company).
But since you played your round yesterday and then went home and watched da Bears THUMP the Seahawks, you're probably still partying...let us know how the golf went when you're done partying.
