Golf in Winter

For those of us in cold climates, what do you do during the cold season related to golf? Hang it up for 6 months? Range? Simulators? I usually just hang it up but I think this year I would like to keep my swing going. I even saw a store that has a golf simulator league during winter.

Theres a heated outdoor range in my area. Other then that I spend the winter in the gym and working on swing changes.

I know, I know but its starting to get cold here in Michigan. I'm playing tomorrow and it will probably be 55 and sunny so I am happy with that but lets not even talk about 30 days from today. I see your from the same area too. Fortunately it looks like we might hit close to 70 this weekend and will probably be the last of that for some time.

In recent years, I've been using the off-season to do more reading, get to movies, do a better job of managing my personal affairs ... the kind of things I neglect during the golf season. Oh... I try to spend more time with Mrs Somebody, too! (Actually, her gardening consumes more time than my golfing. If she's a golf widow, then I'm a gardening widower.)

There used to be an indoor driving range not far from my house; I enjoyed going there before it closed. If coworkers organize an outing to a simulator place, I'll go along, but mainly for socializing, not golf. Simulators are interesting, though.

Usually I just mope around the house...

Actually, there's plenty of sports action to follow, Golf Rewind fulfills my golf talk needs, and there are balls to hit in the garage if we get a meltoff anytime!

Gloating season already?

Gloating season seems to come earlier every year! Why, just today I was in the store and already they had a fresh supply of short pants and short sleeve shirts. And there's a special on sunblock!

I may make a special effort to get into the gloating season spirit and really help you Northerners through the rough times ahead!

I go to an indoor range, about once a week...its a large bubble about 70 yards long. Also go to the gym and work on core strength, flexability, cardio, strength.

Even though we can play pretty much all through the TN winter, we like to go a little farther south and hit the Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama. Come to think of it, we always run into players from Michigan.

Yeah, I hate that winter's coming. Hate playing golf when the high in only a chilly 60 or 65. Sorry guys. If you get a hankerin to play this winter, migrate south and give me a call! Although we do have our cold snaps here where it isn't feasable to play, but more than once I have played golf with family on Christmas Eve!

Jeff14188, where in Michigan do you live ? I'm a few miles west of Detroit and December was the only month since March of last year that I was unable to play. I played 5 times in Jan. , a couple in Feb. and the season started for good in mid-March. Granted we had a mild season last winter , but I never take more than Dec through mid-March off. Oh, and just ignore Inconsistent... at least on this subject. He has a bit of a mean streak... I think it's due to sunstroke that has caused some permanent damage.

Theres an indoor driving range around my area that I hope to hit this winter. Last winter I would ocasionally swing an old club in the garage but that was about it. Then as soon as my local range opened up, I was there. I'd like to find a simulator around my area. They sound pretty cool.

I'm in Shelby Township. I'm sure you could play when you did but it still must have been pretty cold. I usually don't start until May and went up north to play and darn its cold at 45 on the golf course(so I imagine you were colder)
