i have never been, and can't tell from TV, and i hope this isn't too dumb a question , but does the LPGA hit the same distance as PGA tees in tournaments? i assume the Champions Tees remain same distance as PGA?....or are they adjusted before the Tournament starts....
Well.....there is a difference and it depends on the course....PGA will be around 7000-7400 +/- some yards. Seniors.....6700-7000 +/- yards and LPGA will be around 6100-6500 +/- yards. These are only ballpark numbers.

i would have thought same tees since they are all at such a high level of play already , regardless of diffeerences in age or sex, but clearly the LPGA don't use the red ladies tees?!
As was posted, the LPGA courses are normally 6100 to 6500 yards. Whether that means playing from the red tees or not, depends on the length of the course. Check the yardages of the courses you play, and look at the yardages from each set of tees. If the red tees measure in that 6100 to 6500 yard range, you can figure that's where the ladies would play from.
Note also that when the tour committee sets up a course, they don't necessarily go by what the course itself sets up for the daily golfers. For instance your course may have a certain hole that measures 380 yards from the tees you play from, but has a back tee that measures 425. Just because it can play 425 doesn't mean they will set it up to play that distance. The hole may play more interestingly from your tees, so they will play from there. They may move some ladies' tees back to make the course play tougher for them. All yardages really depend on two things -1. What the committee from the PGA Tour decides to do; 2. How much space is available, not only for the course itself, but for hospitality areas as well.

generally speaking: i got to bet the LPGA play from farther than the red ladies tees i see at MOST courses?! do you guys think so or have watched a course you know get changed around for an event? because it seems with those tees a lot of hazards and carryovers are taken out of play...just curous...thanks...Jake
also from what you say , it sounds like the Champions play from distances similar (what we call here ...most often white tees) , the tees for regular joes...
I catch flak from our members in the club championship for not putting the tees all of the way back at our course (can stretch to 7300) but the fact is that I play them around 6700 and even my PLUS handicaps don't usually break par or if they do, not by much. The point is that the yardage for the hole is based on what the committee would like the players to hit into the green as well as where the trouble is that they would like to bring into play.
Since they complained so much this year, I WILL have players with 6 handicaps or less that will NOT break 100 in the Championship Flight next year. You asked for it, you got it.
Bob Hope...PGA West 6950.......Bermuda Dunes 6927...they play 4 courses but 2 are under 7K
Pebble Beach 6816...and also Poppy Hills...they play 2 courses there.
Verizon Heritage, Harbourtown 6973
Barclay Classic, Westchester CC. 6839
Buick Championship, TPC @ River Hills 6820
US Bank, Brown Deer CC 6739
Canadian Open, Angus Glen CC. 6946
Velero Texas Open, Lacantera CC. 6881
That makes 10 under 7K
Now there a few (6) at just over 7K, which could be adjusted to just under 7K for a round.
Sony Open, Waialale CC. 7060
Honda Open, PGA National 7048
Zurich Open, English Turn CC 7078
Bank of America, Colonial CC 7054
EDS Byron Nelson, TPC Four Season CC. 7022
Booze Allen, TPC @ Avenal 7005
I'm getting old and the mind just doesn't work as well
[quote=jcgolfpro]MCI Heritage is less than 7000 yards.

This explains it well. The course, regardless of tour, is set up so that players have to account for trouble areas - hazards, uneven lies, etc. The committee wants to force you to think about those things and as well not have driver/wedge into every hole.
The LPGA would absolutely do the same thing. Most women on the LPGA tour, like men on the PGA tour, do hit it farther than the women you see on your home course, so yes, often their setup on tour is longer than what you would see at your local course. Same holds for the seniors - they will still often play longer than your "white" tees, but it depends on the course itself. I have played two of the courses the seniors played this season. The Regions Charity Classic at Ross Bridge played at 7078 yards, which puts it in between the course setup for Orange tees (6783, where I played from) and the Purple tees (7446). The course can play as long as 8191 from the tips, but is deceptive because most of it's holes play downhill, and it is in a valley. The winning 3 day score there was -17. I have also played The Raven at Sandestin, where the Boeing Championship was held. The Raven maxes out at 6910 yards, but is a different type course, with a lot more places to penalize shots. Ross Bridge is a resort course - very open with places to miss, the Raven has few places to miss, so the shorter distance means little due to the difficulty of the course itself. In fact from the tips, the slope at Ross Bridge is 135, the Raven is 137 from the 6910 yard configuration (they have 2 sets of tees on 16, so it can play as a long or short par 3; the shorter has a higher slope, 138). They played it at 6900 yards, basically from the tips. To illustrate, the winning score at the Raven was -10. So while the course played shorter, it was much more difficult. And it was still longer than we normal humans play - I played the Raven twice at 6345 yards and it's plenty enough course at that length.
I've played some rounds w/ some ladies that are pros (not LPGA) and all the tourneys they play are from right around the mens white tees.
Can someone figure up an average ratio between PGA driving distances and LPGA driving distances? Like for every 1 yard LPGA players hit it the PGA players hit it 3 yards or something to that effect?
