I had a buddy that said, "You can shoot way under your handicap, parring and birdieing a bunch of holes, but the course is gonna get you somewhere. You have a handicap for a reason and the course is gonna get you back to it."

We all have the coulda, shoulda, woulda's with golf. Just curious to see what everyones was this year?
Mine was at the Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach. Shot -1 on the front and + 4 on the back for a 75. Had three double bogeys and a bogey on the card on the backside. So I guess the "coulda" of my round was that if not for the double bogeys I would have shot 69 assuming I made pars on those blow up holes.
I feel for ya. My playing partner hit an off line tee shot on a par 5 and then a truly fantastic 5 iron over a grove of trees to within 8 ft of the pin. This is one slippery green and he putted the first one past the hole, downhill and off the green by a yard. His return putt ran about 4 ft past the hole and he lipped out the 3rd leaving himself a two-footer for bogie... I really felt sorry for him and I know he wanted to throw that Scotty Cameron in the pond, but he restrained himself.

3wd off the tee, then another from the fw. I hit the green hard & it ended up in the back bunker, right inside the lip. To my credit i got it out in one swing, but about 40yds over the green. Then i bladed my birdie pitch & pretty much just stopped caring....

It has never failed me...
I think this is really on the mark for the most part, and some of it is that we get rolling and don't believe that we are "that good" and find a way to get back to where we are comfortable. On the flip side, all my career rounds have happened in tournaments where I got on a roll and just kept it going. Maybe I was able to blot out the lack of confidence.

It's funny how that works. I've always thought I was good enough to shoot in the 60's but it's never happened. I was in position to do it for the first time Saturday as I needed a birdie on one of the last two holes. Instead I went double bogey, bogey to shoot one over. It was like my subconscious was saying "whoa, whoa! You're not suppose to be in the 60's, get up there where you belong!". Either that, or I just choked cause all I could think about was the possibility of a sub 70 round.
On a course I had never seen before, playing the back tees..about 7100 yards. I shot 81 with a 9 on a par 5 after only having 200 to the green for my second Then doubled a par 3 thanks to a chunked wedge from behind the green and a missed 3 footer......to put it in perspective, the two 3 hdcps shot 83. The only person in our 20 man group who beat me was the 5 hdcp who shot 79. Great round for me...could have been a fantastic 75 if I just make pars on those bad holes... On the upside, it gave me a commanding lead on the net side of our bet.

Way to go on the good round. Now you know you can do it, so believe it.
