Let's try to generate a list of the most interesting/memorable open-play golf courses (ie, memberships not required) in each state of the USA sorted into two categories: green fees below $75 and green fees above $75.
I will start for the state of Iowa:
Below $75 - The Harvester just outside of DesMoines.
Above $75 - ???

Above $75, anything at the Turning Stone casino in Verona, NY(45 minutes East of Syracuse). You can play two of them(Shenandoa and Kalyhute, and I'm butchering the heck out of the names) offseason for right around $75 I think, but the new course Atunyote(where the BC Open was moved to this year and one of the fall finish tournaments will be held next year) is $175-$250 depending on the time of the year. The players and commentators all agreed that with the exception of Augusta it is hands down the best manicured course they play.
Arcadia Bluffs on Lake Michigan is the only really sweet place I've ever played. It's across the lake from Whistling Straits, with the same sort of natural terrain though the dunes. Golf Digest had it ranked in its top 10 US public courses. I played there this past summer for $100 twilight. Absolutely gorgeous and while challenging, very playable for anyone.

^^^^^^ yea Arcadia is money...Tiger flies in and plays that sometimes....Tullymore sp* is sweet too!!!
In Arkansas, Big Creek Golf Course at Mountain Home, Arkansas. Greens fees below $75 and rated in the Golf Magazine top 20 under 20K rounds per year.
In Missouri, Branson Creeks at Branson, MO. Greens fees over $75 but worth every penny.
In Oklahoma, Peoria Ridge at Miami, OK. Greens fees under $75. This one is a little hidden gem in the Northeast corner of Oklahoma. Built on Indian land.
