For me, golf is the coolest, but not when chicks are around, the temperature raises...indeed it's getting hot anywhere...only kidding...
To avid golfers who find themselves on the course rain or shine, What's your thought to a logical statement (if it so) that "golfers are cool people". Are golfers cool people???

Ummm....I guess I'll take a shot at this, even though it's fairly subjective. Most golfers are probably going to say that "golfers are cool people", some may not. Non golfers on the whole will probably say golf and golfers are not cool, but then again some may..Even non golfers will probably say Tiger Woods is cool. What's cool to one person, won't be to others, so who knows what's cool and what's not.
I don't think golf has a 'cool' image. And to be honest, I find the majority of the golf population to be a little stuck up and 'exclusive'. So I don't think golfers are cool in general, but there are a lot of cool golfers. Tiger makes golf cool, because he's cool, and lots of other cool people play golf. Like me.
I agree, it may have been better to have asked 'do cool people golf?'
Alice Cooper, those guys from Hootie & the Blowfish, Catherine Zeta Jones, Jodie Kidd, Mr Sooty (of course), Samuel L Jackson, etc are all 'cool' individuals that happen to play golf.
On the pro scene, Tiger (obviously) is the leader of cool, but I don't think first & foremost golfers would consider themselves as cool - possibly the likes of Ian Poulter and Jesper Parnevik are a couple that would do so.
Jim Furyk - not Cool
Tiger Woods - Cool
Fred Couples - Still Cool
Fred Funk - not Cool
Corey Pavin - not Cool
Phil Michelson - ehh, not sure
Sergio Garcia - ehh, not sure
Luke Donald - cool
Stuart Appleby - cool
Rod Pampling - not cool
Payne Stewart - cool
"Not Cool" doesn't mean not good golfer, just not someone I consider to be a "cool", "hip", "happening" guy.
When you finally reach that point in your life where you have not only reached physical, but psychological maturity, you come to the logical conclusion that as far as so-called "cool" goes, who cares? You do "your" thing and let others do "theirs".
What is meant by cool??? Like James Bond cool, or cool like nice people?
If it's amiable people your talking about, I find that the most UNcool players are those who are in that 7-13 handicap range (excluding me of course!). Because they look at 20 handicappers as hacking nuisances but still can't quite break 80 but expecting and trying to- they seem to have alot to prove to other players but mostly themselves.
Higher handicappers know they're not good (yet) and scratch players have been around the game, been thru the learning process, are quieter, and have a basic understanding of all types of players- hard not to be cool.

Does that ^ make any sense???
^^ Yes ! I always thought that Freddie Couples was the ultimate "Joe Cool". The laid back, easy-going guy back in school who was good at everything he tried and he didn't have to try very hard. All of the girls loved him and all of the guys wanted to be like him. Seriously, as a few have said, it's the person not the game.
This is where it helps to have other hobbies to fall back on...
Snowboarding is cool...nobody can deny that. There isn't anything not cool about it. I enjoy it. It's a different world and we all need a change from the same ol' same ol' sometimes.
Fly fishing is indifferent...not a great hobby to fall back on for coolness, but less geeky than golf.
All I can say is that perception and acceptance of golf has been very different since Tiger Woods. If it wasn't for Tiger nobody would think golf is cool.
...and sure, Tiger is taking in lots o' money, but he created most of it anyway
I'm not a very "hip" person so I guess I'm not helping with golf's public perception. What the heck is "cool" anyway? I'm so out of it these days, I barely watch television. What do the kids think is cool now?
I guess we need a new superstar pro golfer with tattoos, pericings and all that combined with a ***** you attitude. That would make golf cool to the kiddies.
One of things I like about golf is that it has none of that stuff and plenty of nice people, I don't see that with other sports.
