the prefix re- means to do again, right? What about replenish, repeat, & repent? Can you plenish, peat, or pent?
Just because a word starts with certain letters doesn't mean it is a prefix! Could just be how the word is spelled.
My office manager would ask me "How was golf today (or yesterday)?" and I'd tell her, "Same as always - try to get ball in the cup with fewest strokes possible on 18 different holes." Then she'd say,"Well, how did you play?" to which I can't resist replying, "Well, usually I follow the Rules of Golf as put forth by the USGA."
with me, if someone who golfs ask me if i'm a golfer or "was i golfing today", doesn't bother me, but if some who doesn't golf ask me the same questions, now i'm wondering where they're going with this or why they are asking.
Need an opinion on people that play golf, are golfers or do they just play golf? This may have been posted before and I missed it.A couple friends asked me if I played much and I said "Being a golfer I play as much as I can".Thats where things went south. They said that people that play golf,"play golf",not are golfers.Their proof is that you never hear tennis players being called tennisers.Narrow minded I called them.Anyone else run into this (play golf, golfer)dispute?
Hi,
sounds to me like another put down by folks who dont like/dont play golf, it happens when folks find out you play golf. Another one that kills me and I think I will scream if I hear it again is "Golf? a good walk spoiled "
I really don't care what they call me as long as they call me at the right tee time. I will "play golf", be "a golfer", or "golf my ball". I am not too concerned with the way the world views me, only in whether or not the golf course is open and playable. Everything else is fluff in the wind.

That was far more poetic than ANYTHING Tom Zart ever published...can I use that in my sig? (seriously).
