Question Yardage Books

Do you buy them from the course Because I have never seen them at any of my local courses. Or do you make them. I found a website called golflink that has a program where yo can see the difference in distance but it would take hours for fill out all the information that I want. How/where do you get a yardage book?

The few that I have I have purchased from the course. Anywhere from $3 - $5 so far. I found a web site once that had some courses on it but I don't have the web site any more. You could print out the course you were going to play. Really nice site. Maybe someone here will know it.

Here in the UK, some courses have Yardage Maps on the scorecards. Some now have Stakes or Trees set 150yds from the front of the greens and many sell Yardage Charts in the Pro Shops.

I purchased it for one course that had one.

I actually used Google Earth to create a yardage book for another. It took a while but it will be less time that I would take to be looking for my ball.

I can't think of a course I've played recently that wasn't pretty well marked, at least with 200, 150 and 100 yard markers of some sort. That doesn't always help off the tee, but I have personal policy about that. If I'm playing with someone I know I can trust, I'll take their advice... otherwise I don't hit farther than I can see. It may mean an extra stroke here and there, but that isn't a big deal, and it's a lot cheaper than hitting a blind shot, then finding that there is water just over that hill. If I play the course a second time, I'll remember some of those situations and change my strategy.

I might be inclined to buy a book if it's available, but they just aren't that common, at least not on the courses I play.

I had better luck with maps.google - I was able to get a better scale. Add in a little photoshop (to add distance rings from tee and green) and I have a decent set of overhead photos for the places I play most.

This process, of course, takes time and is best done in the middle of winter so as not to disrupt possible playing time.

the courses that had one it was really a good tool for you too know how the hole set up......when you get alot of change of elevation it hard to know really where the hazards are and how much to carry them.
