Played 9 with a buddy of mine i seen on the range today..well..on number 9...he hit his drive right down the middle..we got up there..no ball..we looked forever..and then i seen a sprinkler head that was up enough for a ball to fit in it..and sure enough..there it was..i told him..it kills me that you can hit a drive in a 8inch hole from 300 yards away but you cant make a 3 foot putt..lol..wich was jokes..but has this evre happened to anyone else?..like we had to lift the sprinkler open just to get it out..
Ome time I hit a drive right down the center and I couldn't find it for forever until I saw it on a little power box looking thing that was about 10 inches below the ground.

Ha ha, ain't that the truth.
That's why for us amateurs, whenever you have a shot where there is a lone tree blocking your angle of approach, it is said to 'aim right at it.' The odds of hitting it aren't as good aiming at it as if you are trying to miss it. lol
I hit one into a rotted out hole in a tree about 2 feet off the ground once. Same thing, blind shot, looking all over, wait a minute, there is a white thing in that hole in the tree.....
We had a member/guest at our club last Summer. The 9th hole is a Par 3 to an elevated green. 180 yards from the white tee. I hit a 19* Rescue Mid (Extra Club allowing for elevation). On the hillside behind the green, just below the clubhouse, people were watching the Tee shots while eating their lunch. I put my tee shot dead into a guy's cup of coffee about 210 on the fly. Then I took a drop and 4 putted the hole. Go Figure!

For me, it's the opposite. If I don't aim at the tree, I'll hit the tree. If I aim right at the tree, I'll hit my only good shot and hit the tree. The Golf Gods don't seem to like me much.

Hole in One?
The strangest place my ball has ever ended up was in the Y of a tree...I didn't play it from there, though, because as soon as I found my ball it started lightning and we left the course. Lighting + hitting a ball into a tree= not a good day for golf.
I've never seen this before, but the funniest thing I have seen is a fox run across the green and pick up 2 golf balls then high tail-er to the bush never to be seen again. this was in a men's open.
Used to play a lot at Bay Tree in North Myrtle before they closed, and all three courses were plagued with "raccoon squirels" which look like regular squirels except they have a black mask over their eyes much like a raccoon. While they didn't steal or hide golf balls, they were very good at finding food on the cart. When you leave the cart to go putt, they invade the cart and eat whaterer there is and one guy told me they got into one of the pockets of his bag and had a feast. Apparently they have moved to nearby courses because I've seen warning signs about them.
A ball stuck in a sprinkler head should be given a free drop under the "undesireable lie, free drop rule" as outlined in my addendum to the rules of golf! Take that USGA!!!!!

A ball in a sprinkler like that IS a relief situation. The sprinkler is an immovable obstruction, and as such you get relief from it. Rule 24.
