you can hit it for miles and it wont matter, can you hit it accurately and straight?

Re: Just found a great driver for only 40 bucks

tiger hitting a 9 iron 142 yards on average, average being the key word, his swing speed would not add up to this. As you all might know i am not a tiger fan but lets face reality, tiger could hit a 9 iron 165 no problem. My iron speed is around 96 mph and im sure his is around 105 or more, and the 9 iron is my 150 yard club, but thats not saying i dont hit it an average of 140 because its more accurate to hit a 3 quarter 9 then a hard wedge. but good luck to your tour dreams and keep bombing those long drives.

You know what is a little silly about this quote and MM's first quote... what are the lofts of the respective 9 irons? What loft iron is Tiger hitting 142? I am willing to bet that Tiger's loft is at least a little bit weaker than the average 9 iron sold today due to the loft strengthening that manufacturers do. I know that there is a set (posted on here a while back) that has a PW loft of 43 degrees, which means the 9 iron is 40 or 39 degrees. I know I can hit that 9 iron 165 degrees, maybe even more if I really tried to lay into it. But, that is all to point out that saying "I can hit my 9 iron x yards" is pretty worthless without telling us what the loft on it is. That's why Ping started strengthening their lofts in the first place -- it made it look like their clubs were that much better than the old clubs -- and why the rest of the manufacturers had to strengthen their lofts to keep up.

You just made a very key statement. Tiger hits a normal 9 iron 142 yards. Each ball within a few feet of the previous one nearly every time. So a bad shot for him may be around 140 to 144 yards, 6-8 feet off. You state you hit it 155-160, if you miss by much it is from 150 - 165. Tigers miss leaves a 6 foot put, your miss leaves a 15-25 foot putt. Huge difference.

Feherty on Tiger

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"People have accused me of being so far up Tiger's backside that he can barely
make a full swing, but I maintain that he is a special person. There's no
one else on the planet who can do what he does or even think of doing what
he does. I've often thought, instead of showing Tiger's reaction to a shot
he's hit, we really should show the reaction of those around him.

But here is the next best thing. I'm walking down the 18th fairway at
Firestone Country Club with Ernie Els and Tiger, who has popped up a
three-wood about 40 yards behind Ernie into some wet, nasty, horrible,
six-inch rough.

Tiger's cursing and taking clumps out of Ohio with his three-wood. And, of
course, we're not showing this on TV because we want to be able to interview
him later. Ernie and I walk past Tiger's ball, and it is truly buried.

Ernie is tied with Tiger and he's in the middle of the fairway. I'm
standing with Ernie and my microphone is open. Ken Venturi [in the CBS
booth] sends it to me and I say, "Tiger's got 184 yards with two big red
oaks overhanging the green. He's got absolutely nothing.
With a stick of
dynamite and a sand wedge I might be able to move this ball 50 yards." Steve
Williams [Woods' caddie] tells me [with a hand signal] that he's using a
pitching wedge.

Tiger takes his swing. Every muscle in his body is flung at the ball. It
looks like he's torn his scrotum. The divot went as far as I could hit the
ball. I've got my microphone at my mouth thinking, what the heck was that!
The ball sails over the trees, lands behind the hole and backs up to about
six feet from the flag.
I open my microphone and Ernie turns and says, " ^$%#*&
me!" My producer comes on in my earpiece and says, "Was that Ernie?" I say yes.
He says, "Fair enough."

I could have described that shot for 15 minutes and not done as good a job
as Ernie did with two words. This is one of the best players in the world
talking, and you wanna know how good Tiger is? Ask Ernie Els."

Sorry about that I usually post here once a week. Um accuracy wise im very good thats also one of my strengths. People always crowd around me at the driving range thinking how could this guy hit is so far and so straight. So hopefully you guys will see me on the ole tour. I"ll prob start off at the nationwide tour for a year or so then work my way up to the pga. I took 2 years off when I was younger which kind of hurt my game but im back at it and hungrier than ever to go as far as I can and I thank everyone here for the support.

My golf instructor use to be hal suttons caddy. His name is gino and hes like no way you can hit it past the green of a 180 par 3 with an 8 iron...and well you guessed it i did it.

Also I would like to say that the clubs im using are very very bad. the 9 iron i hit 160 is a pinnacle and dirty and just not a good club. Also the rest of my irons are tommy armour "burkes"( they are like from the 70's). Also i use very old balls that you pick up while on the course. My guess is with state of the art clubs and great balls (like nike distance) I would be hitting atleast 20 yards further. Then again distance isnt everything but it sure helps on those par fives:)

(If anyone has anything to donate like clubs or balls that I could use it would be great and help me get that much closer to my dream. Just private message me) lol i hate to ask but i really could use the help my family supports me just cant do it financially.
