This is probably an age old question, but as a beginner I would not mind some of your advise.
I used to always use a loft wedge 56* around the green since I started 10 months ago. It was a Golden Bear very cavity backed and I just never could be consistant with it. About 2 months ago I bought a MD superstrong 60* loft wedge, which I lost faith in after 2 rounds.
For the last 4 games I have used my Pitching wedge (very very softly) around the greens but still want to master the loft wedge.
What do you all hit? Would you advise I use a loft wedge from relativly easy shots to the green say 10 yards or less or just pitch?:
It would depend on the lie and what is in your way.
If there is not a bunker in front of me, I will generally use my 8 or 9 iron.
Have the ball in line with my back foot, hands a head of the ball and use my putting stroke.
If I lean towards the target, I find the ball checks up nicely after a couple of jumps.

Hope this helps.
Yes, Exactly what I am after. So do most people with no bunker etc in front of them just pitch on the green. I was using my loft for any thing, but I am starting to use it more for up and overs.
You're probably going to get a variety of answers, and I'm no expert (bogey golfer), but after experimenting with the 60* wedge and bump-n-running, I've found confidence in my sand wedge (54*) for close chips. I've found that there are very few situations - even with a bunker to chip/pitch over where the loft isn't high enough to leave me with a decent putt if I execute the chip/pitch well - I'm also most consistent with it. I like to half-way face my target (45*) for those real short chips - read it somewhere and tried it and found some success. I imagine as I improve I'll start to look for a shot that I can use to shave a few more strokes, but this works for me now.
I will use anything from a 5-hybrid to a 58º wedge. Depends on the situation. There is no right answer. What I would suggest is practice playing a ball from a variety of lies with a variety of clubs to see what works. Then when you run into that particular situation on the course, you know exactly what to do.
Pitch and run the 60, or use the 64 and flop and drop it. Depends really on the grass Im sitting on. If its sitting up pretty, I use the lob. If its hiding its head like a turtle, I use the 60.
I have practiced with a 60 degree more than any other club in my bag I believe. I will use this club on almost every shot inside 60 yards. I am probably odd man out on this theory though.
I think you should hit different shots around the green depending on the different circumstances. To truly get to the top of your game, I think you would have to be able to play various shots and be good at all of them. Not just one all the time.
The only time I would play a lob wedge around the green is when there's absolutely no other choice. A shot like when I have to hit over a bunker and stop the ball quick. Another shot is if I have a lot of fairway/rough to go over but not much green to work with.
I use my 58 Degree Callaway X-Tour for anything 60 yards or in. I used to have a 60 degree and I was coming up short every time and decided to trade it in for the 58. It still needs some work but I'm getting better with it. I think 60 degree was just too much for me. The 58 allows me to be pretty aggressive and I'm contantly telling myself to accelerate through the ball.
