Q: Did I break 90?

I was playing a par 71 today and shot an 89. Did I truly break 90? Reason I ask is because shooting an 89 on a par 72 is different than on a 71. What are your thoughts on this?

You did. I find having one less par 5 to be harder. Unless it had five par 3's.

Either way, you did it.

Yep. I've been playing golf for almost 4 months now (started in early April this year). I usually shoot in the low to mid 90s. Today I hit a bunch of GIRs and didn't 3 putt as much as I usually do.

Congratulations on breaking 90! Either way, whether the course has one less par 5 or one less par 4, you still have to average around a bogey per hole. So you did it!

Up side.... yes, you broke 90...

Downside... you still haven't played better than bogey golf...

Still a good milestone.

Of course, a par 71 is a true golf course. They play U.S. Opens at that and 70.

very nice on the new low!!! it is great that you are already breaking 90 even though you have played less than half a year, sometimes it takes a lifetime for some people to break 100!

89 is 89, you completed the course in 89 shots no matter what the course, its considered breaking 90, nice goin!

Re: Q: Did I break 90?

Congrats!
I've been playing almost once a week for the past year and I've still only broken 90 once. It was also on a par 71 course and I shot an 88. Golf is a tough game and being able to make it through 18 holes averaging one over par on each hole is something that most casual golfers will never do.

What do you expect from a guy who's username is 'fourputt'. He can't help but be a pessimist.
