Re: LPGA Asian girls

Proper launch angle, a golf ball that's designed for low spin off a driver, the ability to hit the ball in the sweet spot almost every time, and swing speed.

Re: LPGA Asian girls

Launch monitors are amazing things. I literally gained 50yrds on my drives this year after a fitting on one of those things. Strength is probably the least important thing in generating swing speed, but it is icing on the cake. Two people with the same exact swing, the strong person will hit farther.

That is not right I am afraid. If the ball sees the same club head speed, the same launch and the same spin then how does it know the guy on the end of the club is strong or not? The ball knows nothing of the golfer, only his swing. If two swings are identical then the ball will behave as if the hitters are identical. Anything else is to suggest the ball has a higher intelligence!

Re: LPGA Asian girls

It has to do with conservation of momentum. Stronger may have been a bad word. More massive would have been better. When two objects collide a equal force acts on both objects. In the case of a drive, the force will cause the ball to accelerate and the club to decelerate. The more massive the club and (since they are attached) the person swinging it, the less they will decelerate. This will allow them to stay in contact with the ball longer and therefore impart more momentum to the ball, therefore faster ball speed. Its the same reason a heavier bowling ball is generally better then a lighter one, or why everyone moves back when the big kid on the little league team gets up to bat.

How much of a difference does this make? I have no idea. But theoretically it does make a differenece.

That's a good one. Kind of like the answer to the question, what is heavier? Two pounds of iron or two pounds of feathers?

Theoretically mass is a factor, strength definitely not. But you should remember the relative scales. Even a lightweight golfer is going to be orders of magnitude more massive than the ball. Also dont forget that the mass of the player is only moving slowly...

I have nothing to base this on other than my own intuition, but I think that you have a point as far as the weight of the club and clubhead...the heavier club will hit the ball farther...the player it would seem when the club is swung properly, would have little effect on the ball at the point of impact as the hands are soft and the body was only used to give the club a point to hinge on and to generate the head speed that sends it into the ball...

It's all because of that steroid creatine.

The problem of course being that if one makes the head heavier, the two identical swings are unlikely to produce identical clubhead speeds

Re: LPGA Asian girls

That's why they're pros. You got something against Asians or something? How about Morgan Pressel? When she was 12, she averaged 230 yds, a heck lot further than alot of us on here. She was probably under 5 feet at the time.
