Question A Few Statistic Q's

1. Let's say you're playing a par 4 and your second shot ends up on the fringe. Did you hit a GIR?

2. If you're on the fringe and use your putter does it count as a putt or a chip? How about putting from the fairway, putt or chip?

Re: A Few Statistic Q's

1. No, the ball has to end up on the putting surface to be counted as a GIR.

2. Any shot from off the green does not count as a putt. Even if you are using your putter. Sort of weird ...

Hope that helped.

Now you know why the putting stats seem unbelievable . I believe if a putt is within one club's length it should be counted in the stats. If he elects to chip well fair enough but if he uses the flat stick then that is a PUTT.

Please don't take this as my being aggressive or belligerent or hostile in any way. But, this seems pretty silly to me. One club's length is pretty arbitrary, why not two? Heck, sometimes if the fairway is mowed up to green I'll hit a 10, 20, even 40 yard shot with my putter.

Also, what club? If I use a 33 inch putter, but my opponent uses a belly putter or one of those really long putter, his stats are going to be that much better than mine. And, hence, you can't compare them.

The stats are defined the current way for a reason. That way you can compare stats. Sure, it's an arbitrary decision to only include the putting surface and not the fringe, but that's where the line has been set.
