Do any of you prefer to walk the course or get a golf cart.Me personally Id rather drive the course, but are ther any benefits of walking the course.I guess you can think of your upcoming shot a little better cause theres more time.
I walk unless I'm at the home course where I get a free cart...and even then the only time I take it is if I'm teeing off late and wanna get all 18 in before dark.
Other than that, I walk the entire time. I'm young and in shape so it doesn't bother me a bit. And I've walked some vicious courses...both yardage wise and hill wise.
Cart all the way. How am I suppose to play golf, smoke my for cigars, and drink bout a 6 pack of pop. Like today, people who were walking quit after 12 holes or so for it was over 100 degrees and %85 humidity with no wind what so ever.
I walk as much as possible. I prefer to walk because -
it helps my rhythm so I play better
good exercise, since I carry my bag
it's often cheaper, but even if it's not I often do it anyway just to make a statement
you learn the course better, and you remember more. I've ridden courses in a cart and remembered little about the course itself when it was over.
I HATE not having the right club for the short game, or not knowing what club I need and having to guess. When I'm unsure I often just rip the bag off the cart and carry it over, and then put it back later.
I used to be a caddy, and think it's a lost part of the game.
I used to be anti-cart. Now I'm ok with them, though I take them as little as I can.
why golf if you cant walk. Most people in carts could use the excersise myself included always walk. walked 54 holes on 54th birthday.
Try it its great

I have never walked a course...IDK it just doesnt appeal to me. Im only 19 so it's not like Im out of shape or anything I just prefer to ride. I always go with friends and we go to have fun. While im serious about my game It's hard for me to stay 110% serious if I do I make mental mistakes.
I don't like walking because it's a pain to have to hold my beer. :)
Plus, most of the courses I play either don't allow walking, or highly discourage it. At least during the busy weekends, which is just about the only time I can play.
I walk if I am playing at one of my local 9 hole courses, but 18 I ride because it would be dark before I finish if I walked, since I like to play later in the day if it isn't so hot.

wow, I've never been to a course that didn't allow or discourage walking. Interesting, but I can see why.

You know what is really silly about this policy? A group of walkers who know how to play correctly will not hold up a group of riders, and especially the typical group of riders. Tell me this isn't a familiar scenario: The cart riders zip off to the first guys ball, he hops out, looks at his lie, pulls a club, takes a practice swing (or three) decides that wasn't the right club, pulls a second one, has to clean the grooves on that one, has to take another practice swing (or three) and finally hits. All the while, the other cart rider is sitting there watching. And, now, finally, they drive to the other guy's ball, where the story above is repeated.
Compare this with a group of walkers who, after teeing off, all scatter and walk directly to their balls, and while the farthest away one is hitting, the others are looking at their lies, deciding on a club, and taking practice swings right next to their balls. They will be ready to hit as soon as it is safe and their own turn. Then, they all walk back to the green where they rejoin.
Now, if the cart riders did it correctly, it wouldn't be too much of an issue. Correctly here means dropping the first guy off at their ball, and that first guy takes 2, 3, maybe even 4 or 5 clubs. (A good scenario where you take 4 or 5 clubs is if you have left yourself a 50 yard shot over a bunker, so you take your usual 50 yard wedge, and your sand wedge in case you hit it in a bunker, you favorite chipping wedge in case you don't end up on the green, and the putter since you are only 50 yards out, you probably should just walk up to the green.) Correctly also means having a spare ball or two in your pocket, in case you find water or OB, you are ready. And while he is doing his pre-swing routine, the second guy drives up to his ball so he can begin his pre-swing while the first guy is hitting. Then, while the second guy is hitting, the first guy is walking back up so that after the second is done hitting all he has to do is pick the first back up and move along. But even this scenario takes time, and unless the riders really, really zip, it usually isn't significantly faster than a group of walkers.
I like to walk if I can, but right now it is hot and humid, heat indices at or above 100, and when it gets that hot, I take a large jug of water and other drinks with me, so I like to take a cart so that I don't have to worry about carrying all that junk. There really is no excuse for courses not to put out water jugs when it gets this hot, but so few courses do. But, spring and autumn, I try to walk as much as I possibly can.
