I've never cared for his "grip and rip" style of golf but it is entertaining to watch...I have, however, always been amazed at his touch around the greens...how does he do that with such a long takeaway? So, for me, he's a curiosity as a golfer so I don't really consider myself a "Daly fan". But I do like him for one reason...he is flawed, very much so, as a golfer and just another guy...but he has gained my respect for being candid about all his foibles. He hides nothing from the public and speaks his mind openly and honestly. At least he doesn't put on airs and pretend to be something he's not and for that he gets some respect from me. I don't condone his lifestyle at all but at least he's not trying to hide or deny it.
i means really, there ain'ts no reason for this...
seriously though...who cares about how people say what they say? this isn't the first time that i have seen a post like this and honestly i find them completely irratating. there is no reason to be correcting other people's grammar when used in an informal manner. i mean, if you were grading his term paper, well then, sure that would be fine. but on a golf forum? either your being mean or your trying to be funny. if it is the latter then i say you should really make your jokes a bit more clear, because i really didn't get that one. if, on the other hand, it is the former, i take pitty on thee, and suggest you find other hobbies to occupy your time. regardless of your intent, you are degrading the "conversation" we are all having and creating a sense of verbal paranoia. no one should think twice about posting, atleast not on account of their grammar and or spelling (unless it's to a degree that actually detracts from what they're tying to say. in which case, yeah, get a dictionary or something.)
so i say shame on you, you grammar nazi.
uh-oh, i didn't capitalize properly (gasp)...
Oh okay...
was not trying to be funny? Or mean ..... Most people don't know that that is totally wrong, and it sounds totally wrong... just stating the facts....
It sound as if you are trying to make me sound stupid No, I am not.
I found this interesting about "seen" versus "saw" because I've heard others do this as well who are very well educated professionals (not saying you're not). Is it a regional thing?
The Mullet. The Reebok sweatshirt that looked like a knock-off from a flea market. The habitual failed rehabs. The scummy women. The gambling. The withdrawals. The disqualifications. The interviews and speeches where the largest word he used consisted of 5 letters (and was a profanity).
He's a horrible mess of a person. He's no role model. He's no athlete.
He got lucky and won two majors. Argue this point if you like, but how many people have won many PGA Tour events yet never won a major. I think Daly has as many Major championships as regular victories. He was hot when he needed to be, and it was the pre-Tiger era.
John's strong points are that he is a super likeable, very personable guy who will say hello to you and really mean it. He's a down to earth, regular type guy whom the average public can easily identify with. He's also a super golfer who can exhibit some uncanny skills, and he does so in blue jeans. He's a "working guy's" PGA pro. I think his personal problems have just served to endear him to the public, who have seen him go thru life's problems that many can identify with. I just wish he would put the same effort into his golf career that he has with the other diversions he seems to spend so much time with. If you ever spend some time around him, it's hard not to like him, I think.
Imagine if after the 97 Masters Tiger would of started boozing it up and threw away his chance of becoming a great golfer. Do you think people would still like him the way people like John Daly right now. I don't think so. Thats why I don't get why people like John Daly. To me he's just somebody who had all the talent in the world and threw it all away.
