Re: John Daly
Hey this is my first post on the forum
Daly is the kind of guy that everyone wants to win. I suppose it's because we can all relate to him, in some way or another. He's the people's champion. His story is remarkable. How he battled through all the hardships and came out the other end. People just warm to the guy. He may not be a Tiger Woods but his support is just as good. The talent he has is underated. He's just happy earning a living, winning isin't everything to him. All around a lovely guy.

He's a horrible mess of a person. He's no role model. He's no athlete.
He got lucky and won two majors. Argue this point if you like, but how many people have won many PGA Tour events yet never won a major. I think Daly has as many Major championships as regular victories. He was hot when he needed to be, and it was the pre-Tiger era.

Tell us how you really feel. I would bet there are plenty of players on the Tour with plenty of personal flaws and/or issues, they just do a better job of hiding them. For better or worse Daly never tried to hide, what you see is what you get.
I would bet most golfers would rather play a round with John Daly than with some arrogant, self-righteous, judgmental Pope of golf. John Daly is flawed for sure be he is a good person and possesses a great deal of natural golf ability. Your comment that he "got lucky and won two majors" is absurd.

I think he's lucky he played good golf in such big tournaments. Look at Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia, Luke Donald, etc... all of them are better golfers than Daly ever was and all of them have won more tournaments and have been higher in the World Golf Rankings than Daly ever was. YET, none of them have won major championships. For this reason I think it's safe to say that Daly is lucky he won those tournaments.
I am not looking at him from a goody-two-shoes point of view, just a practical one.

Re: John Daly
Obviously you were not old enough to watch him crush the field when he won the PGA Championship. Hardly luck, he was good at one time. Even Tiger Woods has said he is the most naturally Gifted Golfer he has ever seen, It pains me that he has wasted those gifts, but every season I hope he gets back on track and gets it done. He has shot some mighty fine rounds this year and has visted the leaderbaord but just can't hang in there.

Re: John Daly
J.D. can crush the ball futher than 95% of the PGA players, he is awsome around the green. every golfer has had problems with their game and J.D. is one of them. How long was Sergio Garcia famous for his luck out of the trees, a lot. He is certainly a better golfer than probably 99% of us on this forum. Washed up is unlikely. The guy needs some help, If we all made the kinda money he's made in his career we might make those kinda mistakes as well. Minus scummy women.

Re: John Daly
Daly has proven to be a career underachiever and a disappointing waste of talent, but to deny that he was a very good golfer and deserving of his two major victories in his earlier days would be an injustice...
