I ran into a couple of guys last year on the course who were clearly adherents, and they were really hitting the ball a ton, but their direction control left a bit to be desired. ForgedRbest makes a good point about the mental aspect.
Also keep in mind that It's not how, but how many.
NG works! As in anything, one most make the commitment, get proper instruction and practice.

I think the icon you have by your username is the "natural golf" swing, right? I read an article by Moe years ago in one the golf magazines that showed a frame by frame shot of his swing - I think thats the swing he used. Reminds me of Alan Doyle - kind of a slap shot hockey swing. I really believe any swing works if you have talent!
You've got that right. Over 40 years playing the game, studying the game, taking lessons, practicing, playing; and my handicap still hovers between 18 and 20. Pros look at my swing and tell me I should be shooting in the 70s, and then I go out and post a 95. Ugh! It's a wonder that I keep coming back for more.
That yearly round when I finally put it all together once and shoot in the low 80s or upper 70s teases me just enough into thinking that I might be on to something that I hang in there for another season, and another, and another....
Sometimes it gets so bad that I think I must be suffering from some neuro-muscular disease that prevents my body from doing what my brain tells it to!

LOL! Good stuff valeogut! Pros will BS you more than anybody I know! One dear friend of mine was a pro (sadly, he passed away last year) and this guy could throw more manure to compliment a pupil. If I was hitting a few on the range next to him while he was giving a lesson, it was all I could do from falling over laughing overhearing what he was telling the guy he was giving the lesson to. After a lesson, or anytime he saw me hitting on the range, he'd ALWAYS come over and tell me if he could just work with me for a week, he'd have me playing well enough to pass the playing qualifications to become a Class A pro. (Just so you know, I'm a course superintendent and have NO desire to become a club pro - so all his lessons were "on the house", so he had no financial incentives to analyze my swing). We always had a running "arguement" going that he needed to save his BS rhetoric on somebody that actually paid him!! This pro was the nicest guy in the world, LOVED golf and giving lessons, and had a fantastic sarcastic sense of humor. I'm getting choked up just thinking about the guy But if he were still here, he'd be the first to tell you that a pro doesn't get repeat business by telling people that they have no talent, will never break 90 and should give up the game. They'll all tell you that if you keep working with them, you'll be breaking 80 b4 you know it!
Love the "inside" information, greenguy. It's as I suspected--some of us just aren't going to get any better no matter how hard we try!
The pro I'm working with now gave me one paid lesson, and after the hour was up told me that I didn't need to invest in more than that. Now I know why: He saw that I was beyond help! Now, when he sees me on the range, he stops by, offers a couple of comments, and moves on. At least he's not stealing my money!
Perhaps after hearing about my two back operations, deteriorating hip joints, and nerve damage in my left leg, he realized that I was a hopeless case. That's all right--this hopeless case still believes that someday, somehow, he can consistently shoot in the low 80s or high 70s!
Not to make light of your physical ailments but...I had a dog with the same maladies and I had to put him down :( . Poor thing, he never broke 80 either. Keep working at it and you'll get there. Probably when you least expect to!

It is a representation of "Moe's" swing . . . for additional info try this link, check out the forum there also:
Just to set the record straight, leaguegolf, I have broken 80--just not lately; and just last year I shot an 81, both on legit courses too. Not bad for a broken down old dog! I just can't sustain that quality of play week in, week out. I even considered Natural Golf for a while but decided that learning a whole new swing and buying all new Natural Golf equipment wasn't something I wanted to do.
IWC's icon is actually of Todd Graves, who's the closest copy of Moe Norman's swing. Todd Graves and his brother Tim are based in Oklahoma City and have the worlds largest Moe Norman swing instructional Facility there. They also travel accross the U.S. teaching Moe Normans swing. They will be at Noblehawk Golf Links in Northern Indiana July 28th and 29th and at the Wilkshire Golf Club July 30-31and Aug. 1st in Ohio. They are also building a new teaching facility Eaglecreek Golf Course near Orlando Florida and another one in Vegas in the near future. These guys are the real deal. They really care about their students achieving their scratch goals. They have a FREE instructional website ( www.swinglikemoe.com ) that has clips from their DVD's in an instructional section (click on the etips link). They also will send you free email tips if you want them and a bi-monthly instructional newsletter. They also have their own instructional golf forum (click on the chatroom link at their website) which has surpassed the Natural Golf forum in membership, topics and posts. Natural Golf had gotten away from teaching Moe norman's swing and became more of an club sales company while Graves Golf Academy is only about instruction which is why they are so successful. If you've ever questioned the success of Natural Golfers or wanted to know more, don't be shy, check out thye Graves website (www.swinglikemoe.com ). It's free and you don't even have to tell golf buddies!
