Individual ball markings

What sort of marks do you put on your golf balls to identify them as yours? I saw in one of the major golf magazines a while back where they showed some of the more unusual markings from the pros.

I usually circle the number and put my initials above the brand name. ( I know, it's boring, but does the job!! )

This season I put three XXX's on both sides of my ball 1-orange 1-red 1-black. It usually changes season to season.

I like to put a line on the ball to line my putts and I put 6 dots in each dimple around the number of the ball.

I put my intials on one side and favorite number on the other and then a line to line up putts.
Last season it was different, it changed season to season just as Frog.

I usually use a purple sharpie and draw a line thru the name of the ball. My daughter drew some flowers on a sleeve for me one time. Probably the longest I ever played a sleeve before loosing them. Nothing more manly than teeing off with you Titleist petunias.

I came across a blue Sharpie on a course a few years back, and use that to circle the number on the ball. Nothing too outrageous, though I usually end up palming them before the ink dries and end up with a faded circle and blue hands!

A friend of mine in HS drew an "X-rated male image" on a ball once, used it to line up putts, and he was on fire! Until of course he lost the ball and had to rely on more conventional putting methods!

Conservative blue

A single blue dot with a Sharpie to the right of the number on both sides of the ball.

It's a political statement: I'm always on the "right" side of every issue.

I used to put a dot next to the number, but in many lies the dot wouldn't be visible. In the rough (I go there sometimes), I'd stupidly assume that the ball I was standing over was my ball and I'd just fire away. Most of the time it was my ball, but once or twice a year I'd hit a wrong ball, which I wouldn't figure out till I marked the sucker on the green. In league play, this is real bad: 2-shot penalty, go back down the fairway looking for your real ball, hold up your group, explain yourself the group behind you...

So now I use a black sharpie to put 6 equally-spaced dots on the ball: 1 on its north pole, 1 on its south pole and 4 around its equator. This way, however the ball comes to rest, at least 1 dot is plainly visible, and usually 2. I haven't hit a wrong ball in a while now.

I use 6 Sharpie dots in the dimples to form a triangle. I found one of my lost balls in a used ball sale bucket once. Didn't buy it back though.

I make a Bass clef (musical notation) on my ball on each side just right of the logo with a black sharpie.

That would create a real dilemma for me. The ball obviously either didn't want to be found (by me anyway) or didn't want to play anymore. Now, if like some guys, I had my name printed on the ball...I'd have to buy every one of them back just to avoid the embarrassment! I suppose the ultimate in finding your lost ball in a used bin would be if the used bin was at a course you haven't played before. :( What do you do if one of your group spots your ball in the used bin?

Just curious....Why didn't you buy it back?

I have never marked my balls before, golf balls included. However, you have me thinking about it and I probably will mark my golf balls tonight. I'll let the wife worry about the others (although they have never been lost or strayed). I'm thinking of putting a "C" to the left of the number on my ProV1x and a "O" to the right - my boys initials.

Just like this - three dots and a dash, which is Morse code for my initials "S.T."
