I have been practicing knockdowns for those tweener distances...ready to go!
Also put in a little green time with the wedge as a putter...not the best but good enough I suppose, and like fourputt said, it frees up some valuable space in the five slot bag...

I putted a bit with my hybrid before my round on Friday... that's going to work quite well for me. It really isn't much more than a lofted putter with a longer shaft... and at most the ball only carries a foot or so before settling down to a smooth roll. It actually comes off the face a bit hotter than it does with my putter.
I'm really hoping to be able to get a round in. The forecast is calling for showers this weekend and I can't get in a full 18 during the week...lets hope for the best.
I will try to get my round in tomorrow, rain dependent…I revised my bag makeup after considering the probable distances expected…it will be:
3h
6iron
8iron
52*
putter
I put the hybrid back in the bag last week…I spent a couple range sessions focused on it and improved my setup and have been having better results, but the bottom line is that all things being equal, the hybrid will hold a green better than a long iron, and as the rainy season started last week, the ground conditions are softening and the hybrid gives that little extra insurance against digging in…also, after a little debate, I decided that the putter would ultimately save more strokes…that is to say I haven’t practiced enough putting with anything other than my putter, and I am sure that on some putts I wouldn’t hold the green, and anything made over 10 feet would depend on a lot of luck.
Looking forward to this, I am looking at this as a practice experience, making me approach holes that I have played hundreds of times with a fresh perspective and manufacturing tee and fairway shots to suit what I have available…I don’t want to change anything about my putting game at the moment! (somebody give me some wood to knock on, a rabbit’s foot and a four leaf clover held by a leprechaun!!!)
Fourputt's adjusted score comes out to 73.
Sorry to put you out as a target Rick, but now they know what they're shooting at.
I'm in shock here, as it's rained 3 days in a row. Unfortunately, that's not enough to wet the dirt at the bottom of some of the lakes good. bump, send some of that rain to the SE US please.
It looks like saturday will be the first clear day here. After only 4" of rain from May-Sept, we've received 8" in October, 5 of it coming in the past 2 days.
Went to the course this morning and discovered that one of the local golf societies had decided to hold a tournament unannounced...70 people just showed up to play at 6:30... ...lack of taking tee times is standard at all the courses around here...folks just show up, but you would think that they could have shown a little more courtesy...that and the rain combined to slow play to the point that I had to leave after 16 holes to get to work...if it is all the same I'll just start fresh tomorrow, if not I'll fill in the score that I get on the two holes the next time I play...up to you guys...
Found that I had the wrong makeup today...the 3h was a little short, so I tried to hit it too hard all day, resulting in hooks...for the next time I think I will follow fourputt's suggestion and drop the putter in favor of a 3wood, drop the hybrid for an iron and gap them accordingly...
I am going to get my round in on Monday here in NE Colorado. I will post my score and scorecard on here an PM it to you Lowof83 after the round. I am looking forward to this, the guys I am playing wilth are also going to dump their bags down to five and have a litle challenge going for the foursome. Here is my club selection;
5 W, 5 iron, 8 iron, sand wedge and putter.
Lowof83 I saw you had a question make beside my nick in an earlier post, my unofficial handicap is 25, just so everyone knows.
I am really looking forward to this and having fun with it and see how creative I can be with my shot selection.
So I went ahead and played another 18...was able to complete it this time...just about the same as yesterday despite dropping the putter today in favor of the three wood...yesterday was +9 after 16 and today finished +9 79...like fourputt said it is a little mixed feelings here as I left $1000+ worth of equipment sitting at home and shot about the same as I have this week...all in all it was good fun!
BTW...the course is rated 70.5 par 70 slope 129...hdcp 6.3
Well, if my understanding of this works, we've got Fourputt in the lead with a 73 (+1), and bump-n-run's at 72 (+2). I hate handicapping...
You guys are all welcome to post up your scores with the handicaps already figured to save me the embarrassment of having to use a calculator and hope I'm right.
If no one objects, we'll go ahead and stretch this out a few extra days so everyone who's "signed up" for this one can get a round in.
Ok here it is I shot an even 100. Man my chipping really needs work, it killed me today. My buddies all chickened out on joining me for 5 clubs and then they were getting kinda irritated that they were only outdriving me by about 5 to ten yards and I was using my 5 wood. i don't know what happened but I was really hitting my 5 wood well for the most part. Here is my course website. Oh by the way par is 71.

I've come down with a terrible cold and won't be able to get in a round anytime soon. It kills me to not play, but with the cold weather setting in it's time to slow down until spring.
