This is the thread where we're going to outline the rules for our first GR 5 club golf tournament. Anyone who wants to sign up needs to PM me letting me know you want to participate. We're going to have to get this one together fast, because winter is approaching in various parts of the world, so I'm going to tenuously set the deadline for receiving entries as October 20th.
We're going to do this one on a USA vs ROW (rest of world) setup, despite the fact that the President's Cup is already over, and we've a year to wait 'til the Ryder Cup.
The rules:
5 clubs in your bag total
Men play from the men's tees, and women from the women's tees, and anyone under 12 or over 60 can play from the forward tees if they would like.
All rounds must be played between October 22nd, and October 31st.
Have fun with it. That's why we're here, and why I'm willing to go ahead and try to throw this thing together in a short time.
If you don't have a handicap, estimate one using your last few rounds. (You'll have to report handicaps and scores to all team captains.)
I need captains to volunteer in this thread - the volunteer that has the most posts on GR will get the "job" for each team, and the volunteer with the 2nd most posts will automatically get the job as co-captain.
Unfortunately, I can't participate in this one, other than to try to put it together. I broke my foot, so I'm out of the game for a little while.
Good luck to all, and may the best team win!
I like these types of tournaments. And to Bluenoser, it's still a round of golf. Believe it or not you can actually improve your overall game by playing with a short bag. It helps teach shot selection, course management, and even more, it teaches you to use your imagination. For instance, I won't even have my putter in my bag for this one.... and that's all I have to say about that..
Well gentlemen (and ladies) there is only 2 days left of signups after today. The names in the first post of this thread are all that have shown interest in participating so far.
From the looks of things, a USA vs ROW setup is totally out of the question. I'm up for suggestions on how you, the people actually participating, would like to go forward from here. I'll be glad to set it up any way the group can agree on. Consider the discussion open.
Lets do stroke play using handicap or if no official handicap then what that person would shoot in a normal round. I am looking forward to it and curious as to what I would score.
Well, tomorrow morning will tell the tale. I'll check in to see if I have an new PMs concerning this. If you gentlemen want a stroke play event, I'm good with it.
I'll need your handicap info, along with the scorecard information on the courses you play. Let me know in advance where you're playing, and (if possible) send me either a link to an online scorecard for that course, or fix me one up in photoshop, paint, heck even document form and send to me.
Good luck, and we'll see if I get any more entries.
I'll be playing my round sometime during the week. I'ts raining here right now, and the high for tomorrow is supposed to be somewhere around 40. But it's forecast to be nice again next week, so I will get the round in.
