Calling Colorado Golfers

Ok... seems like every forum has a group that lives in the same region and tries to have a get together. So I think it's time for us Colorado golfers to do the same. I therefore propose that we start to discuss such an outing. I know that we have at least 4 here, with Shelby, One Putt, royalwulff and myself.

Wulff is a couple of hours away, but that could be mitigated by setting the outing up for Riverdale Dunes or Buffalo Run. So what do you all think?

Re: Calling Colorado Golfers

I was typing at Royal about this, and he and I are in favor of a Monday date, as the courses are less busy during the week. We had not discussed a course up to now, but having played Riverdale Dunes one time, it wouldn't be my first choice. Hard course to play if you've never played it, as there are lots of times you have no idea where you need to hit the ball off the tee. Might be okay if someone is real familar with the course and can act as a guide for the rest of us, but not otherwise. Where is not a big issue at this time as most all of the courses are covered in snow right now, so a date will have to wait a bit. Why not see who's willing to play, and then decide where and when?

Re: Calling Colorado Golfers

That's kind of why I figured to start talking about it now.... then once the courses get in condition, we can decide where. I can play most any day as long as I have enough notice to schedule it by the middle of the previous month. We need to watch aeration schedules too... don't want to set this all up and find the course all chopped up. If you haven't played Buffalo Run, it's a good one too. I played it one time several years ago in a company scramble. Long, but fairly open... and in my memory I rarely had a level lie, lots of humps and bumps, and well bunkered. It's a good layout, maybe a little less penal than The Dunes course can be. Both are good choices though.

Another possibility if you want to come over to the west side of town is Fossil Trace. It's a very different course, but interesting and fun too. I know the head pro there... he gave lessons to my wife when he was the pro at Foothills.

I'll pretty much play anywhere though.... just throwing out something to chew on.

Re: Calling Colorado Golfers

I would certainly be interested as well and with some notice should be able to make a Monday work as well. This sounds like a great idea.

HI; JMYBFFT:
Hello neighber. Where in Aurora are you? Send me a PM with your phone number or email and let's talk or type. I'm just east of Chambers, and north of Iliff Ave.

Re: Calling Colorado Golfers

Who has been to the Denver Golf Show in the past and who is going this year? This will be the first time I am going and wondered if anyone had any ideas of things that should not be missed and or avoided all together. Thanks.

Re: Calling Colorado Golfers

I've been before. I was planning on going this year, but I'm having a minor surgical procedure on Thursday which is going to probably put me out of the running.

I just check out the web page (Expo web site) and look at the schedule for the different presentations, figure out which ones I want to see, and plan the day around that. There were a couple of seminars that I wanted to see, starting at 2 PM, so I'd probably have gone early enough to do a full walk-through before the first seminar.

I don't think that we have arrived at any consensus yet. Just some preliminary discussion. That makes 4 courses mentioned so far.

Riverdale Dunes
Buffalo Run
Fossil Trace
Green Valley Ranch

There are so many good ones in the metro area that we could just about throw a dart at a map and have a 90% chance of hitting a possibility.

Re: Calling Colorado Golfers

I'm going to the Expo Friday morning, and again on Sunday with my wife. If anyone would like to meet up at the Expo. let me know and we can arrange it.

Rick; What about your home course? Would that make for a good play to meet and play 18 holes? One good thing is we can count on at least one person knowing their way around the course. That's always nice. We have a few decent courses over here in Aurora, if anyone would want to play on the east side of town. Got easy courses, and not so easy courses to pick from. ??????

Re: Calling Colorado Golfers

My home course is Foothills, on S. Carr St., west of Wadsworth, just south of 285. It's a good course, and I can guarantee us a tee time, especially on a Monday. It's an older municipal course (built in 1972), and it's been in really good shape for awhile now. The snow cover really helps to cut down on the winter traffic, so the course can be quite lush. It generally plays longer than it once did, although the yardage hasn't changed any. It's an old fashioned parkland style, with just enough mature trees to be a problem, which I happen to like, but it's up to you guys.

Last years fees were $35 for 18 and $14 per player for carts ($49 total). Carts are NOT required. I don't yet know if that is going to change or not. but if so, it won't change much.

If any of you want to PM me with an email address, I can send a couple of photos of the course.

Re: Calling Colorado Golfers

I have played the Fossil Trace course and yes it is tough but I had fun with it. I have also heard lots of good things about Buffalo Run. I am open to just about anything. I have also played Fox Hollow and liked that course also. I was not real impressed with AppleTree.

JMYBFFT and OnePutt A golf buddy of mine and I are going to the Expo on Sunday. When are you and your wife planning on going on sunday? We are going early as we are going down south to Golf Galaxy after we get done at the show.

FourPutt Your home course does part of it run by the Federal Pen there in Lakewoood?

Re: Calling Colorado Golfers

I am not sure when I'll be going to the show yet. If I decide in time I will be in touch with you guys to see about meeting up.

Royalwulff, do you want to go down by Park Meadows Mall or are you just looking for a Golf Galaxy? There is a new store within about 10 miles of the Golf Expo and also a Golfsmith in the same general area. You can save yourself a few miles this way.

I have played The Dunes, Buffalo Run and Green Valley Ranch and all are very nice courses. I have not played Fossil Trace or Foothills and would be up for either of those. Whatever works the best for everyone else.

We want to go to the Golf Galaxy by the Park Meadows Mall. They have the Callaway Opti fit system and my friend is getting fit for his driver and fairway woods. He has already been there once and they have his data.
