Tiger on driving.
"College kids hit it so much further then we do on tour, its scary, there are all just pounding it like we all did, I did, Davis Love did, Fred Couples did, we all did back in college. But on tour the rough is high the fairways are narrow"
Just an interseting comment from Tiger.

Re: Tiger on driving.
its. true. the college kids just pound on driver, find it, and hit a wedge. in the pros its much more strategic. the pins are tougher, rough higher, and holes are longer. college is a power game where the pros play more of a finess game

Of course, one of the complaints about the tour these days is the "bomb and gouge" mentality--pound it, find it, and wedge it in close...

When I was in college (1958 - 1962) the same comments applied. Sports reporters also observed that the touring pros played many tournaments by bombing it off the tee and hitting wedges in tight to every pin.

I suspect the Bomb and Gouge style of play has been around for a long time. Certainly Seve was a practitioner in his day, Arnie, earlier than that. And having recently read Mark Frost's The Greatest Game Ever Played, the likes of Harry Vardon and Ted Ray, as well.
