Whose swing do you emulate?

Do you picture any tour pro's swing when you are playing? Try to copy anyones tempo, finish, or any certain move? It depends on the day, but I always picture either Fred Couples, Retief, or Phil.

Re: Whose swing do you emulate?

I swing my own swing. But pro-swings do often pop into my head after I swing, based on the feel of the swing. Sometimes I end up in an Ochoa followthrough, sometimes I hit an abbreviated Mickelson iron-shot, sometimes I have Singh's sloppy followthrough, sometimes I have a clean and simple Appleby or Sorenstam swing, occasionally a Sabbatini-like swing escapes me, etc.. etc..

Re: Whose swing do you emulate?

The swing that I most closely emulate, though not intentional is that of the one and only Charles Barkley.

Seriously though, it's not that bad, but it's pretty close.

Re: Whose swing do you emulate?

I swing my own and look to see who is most like me. My swing (not to sound arrogant) is pretty close to a pros swing minus the dedication and certain perfections. Used to play in college and teach. My swing looks a lot like Zach Johnsons as far as today's pros go. Growing up I liked Curtis Strange, Nick Faldo and Tom Watson. I liked Jack Nicklaus' tips on keeping your head steady.

Everyday I wish I did not burn out on golf at 21....

Re: Whose swing do you emulate?

Not really, my backswing used to resemble John Dalys but my golf pro quickly rid me of that at an early age. My finishing position is more Roy McAvoy than anything else.

Re: Whose swing do you emulate?

I don't try to emulate anyone, but I started playing golf in the Nicklaus/Palmer/Trevino era, so the swing models we were looking at were a little bit different than what we see today. Being long and lean, my swing more closely resembled that of a Tom Weiskopf or a Johnny MIller. Adam Scott would probably be something of a modern day equivalent to those guys.

Like birdie3, I had a pretty good swing back in the day, just lacked the consistency that only comes through practice...and real talent, of course. I would like to incorporate some of Freddie Couples' languid rhythm into my swing, but at the same time, I have to be true to myself. If my tempo gets too loose, I tend to decelerate and hit chunkers all over the course.

Re: Whose swing do you emulate?

Really no one, with 2 caveats.

1. I would be very happy if my swing plane looked the same as Morgan Pressel's.

2. Same with the follow through of Tiger Woods.

Other than keeping my club on plane (I have a one plane swing), staying in balance and in good tempo, and having the right follow through, I don't care who's swing mine looks like.

Re: Whose swing do you emulate?

I don't try to emulate swing moves of PGA players. Their coordination is on a different level and they are stronger and more flexible than me. I do, however, try to focus on tempo. I like to imitate Retief or Ernie's tempo with the driver and Tiger's iron tempo. Also, on putts I like to try to copy David Toms' stroke.

You gotta work on that four handicap then my friend because obvioulsy it isn't the swing's fault...

I like to think of a pro's tempo, but whenever I try to mentally copy anyone too close, I don't listen to my own rhythms...I'm pretty sure that I don't look like a pro, but I do better without emulation...

Re: Whose swing do you emulate?

My instructor said I had Freddie's swing...very smooth and more power than it looks like.

Even when trying to hit as hard as I could it still looked smooth.

I wish I had all of Freddie's power...not even close.
