You are saying that it's ok to cheat, as long as there is money on the line????? I find myself speechless, mostly that anyone would actually admit to being so morally bankrupt that he can't even see the wrong in such an act.
Max Iron is a golfer in every sense of the word, not to mention a man of integrity, and I'd be happy to play with him any time, any place.
HabanoHal on the other hand would be quite unwelcome in any group of golfers I've ever played with.
Thanks fourputt . What stuns me is why my buddies and now this dude gives me hassle for being honest. The only time I consider it to be wrong to be completely honest is in situations where you say exactly what you mean to hurt somebody's feelings or your trying to get rid of your own guilt and at the same time hurting a person. Almost any other scenario ill go with honest.
I would be glad to play a round with you too fourputt Any time.
And to the other guys who has supported me, thanks
Re: Won a tournament but discovered I had to many clubs!
Update !
The tournament committee decided that I should go unpunished. They just gave me a "yellow card" as they said and the next time it happens I get DQ.
The reason being it was the first tournament I entered and the fact that I openly admitted the fact when nobody realized it. I got several responses that it was noble of me to let them know so thats always a good response to get.
I was not going to argue with the yellow card warning, as the committee had discussed it and agreed that no further action was needed.
It's not a serious tournament though, and that maybe had something to do with it.
Re: Won a tournament but discovered I had to many clubs!
Wow, I can't believe that.
The pinnacle of integrity would be to ask them to reconsider, and ask why they think it is ok not to follow the rules of golf in a tournament. In my opinion, them not disqualifying you is just as bad as if you hadn't revealed your breach of the rules.

Well, I'm not going to do that, I can tell you that right now.
My integrity has been proved, and my honesty has been appreciated by the club members. If I set a question mark about their decision I just as well may end up as questioning THEIR integrity. Why do I wan't to do that?
I once more stated to one of the man " You could have just DQ me." and he replied that it was not necessary because 1) It was my first tournament and they are really keen on recruiting more people to the tournaments and 2) I was honest about it even though I did not need too and 3) "It is only the wednesday tournament (Direct quote).
The Wednesday tournament is a relaxed tournament that goes over a whole season of collection stableford points. You have to understand quadruble, I live in a city with only 14 000 people so this golfclub is by no means large, and the general understanding of this club is that it is a very "welcoming" place to be.
If it where the club tournament, I'm pretty sure they would act quite differently, that is the tournament with prestige.
If you look at it very square in terms of golf rules and etiquette I agree, I should without a shadow of a doubt be DQ. If you add the human side of it, the fact that I was honest and the fact that it was my first + a tournament that didn't mean a whole lot PLUSS the fact that I live in a very small town with a small club, it is understandable.
Maybe they thought: Why punish a young man who played his first tournament , made a honest mistake and was honest about it? That's the human side of it.
By the way, I didn't win afterall. I won the class from 18,4 hcp and worse but there was this one guy with 15 who scored 25 points.
That may have played a part from not DQ me, because I won't get the price of a gift certificate this wednesday anyway.
Re: Won a tournament but discovered I had to many clubs!
Congratulations Max on winning your first tournament!! If you poll your responses, you will note the overwhelming answer was honesty at all times. You are a double winner in my book. The negative feedback from the minority...you must consider the source. Good luck next time and count your clubs before every round of golf.
Cheers, Bob

Not at all. If you are enjoying practice, which I do, your golf course play will continue to improve and you will receive even more pleasure from practice and playing!

Just want to add that I wasn't questioning your integrity, really just questioning why a tournament committee would waive a rule of golf. You did the right thing, and got a favorable ruling. It even happens to the pros (esp. Tiger). Sometimes rulings are made that really aren't correct in favor of the golfer.
I just think that if you have an official event, rules need to be followed.

Just for clarity, the committee doesn't even have the right to waive a rule of golf. So they have broken the rules by allowing Max to get away with his mistake. What a tangled web..... that could raise quite a stink the next time it happens and they don't give that player the same break... like poking a stick at a wasp nest.

haha
Nobody will now, cause I have only told my buddies. There is no web here and that particular tournament is not serious at all,for the fourth time..
Re: Won a tournament but discovered I had to many clubs!
It doesnt matter what any local rules say...If you sign an incorrect scorecard thats an auto DQ..you did the right thing though..for sure..dont listen to the idiots..and yes ill say IDIOTS that tell you not to say anything..they arent true golfers if they say that..In order to play this game guys..YOU MUST KNOW THE RULES...and anyone that doesnt play by the rules in a bona-fide cheater....now im not saying someone who rolls the ball to get a good lie when playin with your buddies..****..everyone has done that once or twice...but in tournament play...rules are rules and must be followed...as far as the "committee" that didnt DQ you and allowed you to break the rules pretty much...wel...imo they should be fired..lol..because what happens next time someone else does this...or maybe some other rule and they allow it to slide...it isnt fair to everyone else...if you feel its in your well being not to take the punishment for the break..well...that just shows how much respect you have for the game...Its a gentlemans game...honesty being the main factor...but hey...thats just my opinion...everyone has one..
